Training Camp Report: Day 2

Monday, 01.14.2013 / 9:00 AM
By Rob Mixer - BlueJackets.com / CBJ Today

12:15 P.M.: Practice has wrapped up here at Nationwide Arena. Stay tuned to the CBJ Today blog and BlueJackets.com throughout the day for interviews, stories and more as we continue Training Camp presented by OhioHealth.

12:00 P.M.  Through the lens once more... on the main ice at Nationwide Arena!

11:50 A.M.: Vinny Prospal just took a hard spill into the end boards after a drill, but he's back up and looks to be OK. On a related note, that line (Foligno-Johansen-Prospal) has gotten better as the practice has progressed. Looks like Richards is fond of the Prospal/Foligno pairing, with Mark Letestu slotting at center with them yesterday.

11:35 A.M.: I've really liked Nikita Nikitin today, too. Looks as if he will remain paired with Fedor Tyutin for the foreseeable future, and it's not just because they're countrymen -- they work well together. Same can be said for Erixon and Aucoin; Erixon's awareness has been evident in drills and he's got a quick "first read" when making the breakout pass.

11:30 A.M.: We're switching rinks and almost set to go at Nationwide Arena. First drill is under way...

11:10 A.M.: I joked the other day that Cam Atkinson scores more goals in practice than anyone I've ever seen here, and he's back at it today. Seems to score on every drill. When I talked to him over the weekend, he really felt like guys coming up from Springfield had the advantage in camp because they've been in game shape for a while.

The fact that he's sticking with Umberger and Brassard to start today is another good sign. I get the feeling that Todd Richards really likes that trio, and with the numbers they put up at the end of last season, it's hard to argue.

11:00 A.M.:  Through the lens at Blue Jackets Training Camp presented by OhioHealth...

10:40 A.M.: And the defense pairings...

Erixon-Aucoin
Johnson-Wisniewski
Tyutin-Nikitin
Moore-Savard

10:35 A.M.: Practice is under way and we have some new lines today. Here they are:

Umberger-Brassard-Atkinson
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Dorsett
Prospal-Johansen-Foligno
Calvert-MacKenzie-Boll
Gillies-Letestu-Jenner

10:30 A.M.: The players have trickled on the ice at the OhioHealth Ice Haus and today's practice should be getting under way shortly. Looks like we'll have some new line groupings today, so stay tuned...

10:00 A.M.: Just a brief reminder -- practice gets under way at the OhioHealth Ice Haus in about 30 minutes' time. All practice sessions held on the practice rink are free and open to the public, and at this time, Nationwide Arena practices are closed to the public.

Feel free to tweet at myself (@RobMixer) or the official team account (@BlueJacketsNHL) with any questions you may have throughout the day!

9:30 A.M.: Back at it for Day 2 of Blue Jackets training camp presented by OhioHealth, and I'm anticipating a host of new story lines today after an exciting first session on Sunday. I'll have live updates here throughout the morning as the players go through drills, and I hope to provide some analysis along the way.

While we wait for the players to hit the ice (practice starts at 10:30 a.m. in the OhioHealth Ice Haus, and it's free and open to the public), you can check out Todd Richards' media scrum yesterday in the video above.
