Training Camp Report: Day 6
11:15 A.M. -- Some more actions shots from today's Blue Jacket's practice...
11:00 A.M. -- A lot of drills this morning focused on lines and working together as five-man units, which is what Foligno talked a lot about earlier this week. The Blue Jackets want to be a team that pushes the pace, but in doing so, they have to work as a unit and support the puck all over the ice. We're seeing a lot of reps geared toward reinforcing those principles.
10:35 A.M. -- The first series of drills is under way, and the top two lines are intact: Umberger-Brassard-Atkinson, Dubinsky-Anisimov-Dorsett. Ryan Johansen and Mark Letestu are alternating shifts on the third line between Nick Foligno and Vinny Prospal, while Colton Gillies and Matt Calvert are sharing left wing duties on the fourth line with Derek MacKenzie at center and Jared Boll on the right.
Best guess is that Todd Richards wants to get everyone involved in the early going today, and later on, we'll see some more concerete combinations. The addition of Letestu at third line center (or just the mere thought of it) is intriguing, because that's how they opened training camp on Sunday.
10:30 A.M.: The players have taken the ice for practice at Nationwide Arena. Cam Atkinson, who missed practice Wednesday and skated on his own yesterday, has rejoined the full group for today's skate and looks good out there. No restrictions, smiling...a good sign.
10:15 A.M. -- Here are the Blue Jackets (projected) line combinations...
EXTRAS: Calvert, Gillies, Savard
10:00 A.M. -- Welcome to our final LIVE blog from Blue Jackets Training Camp presented by OhioHealth. In about 34 hours, we'll be sitting back and awaiting the drop of the puck in Nashville...which is pretty crazy and exciting to think about. It's almost time!
The Blue Jackets are slated to take the ice at Nationwide Arena in about 30 minutes for their final camp practice, and this time, they'll do so with the final roster. Boone Jenner and Tim Erixon were the two roster cuts made by the team yesterday, bringing the Blue Jackets roster down to the 23-man limit. The NHL's roster deadline is set for 5 p.m. today, but many teams have already gotten down their numbers.
