FINAL: LA 2, CBJ 1

  • Dalton Prout
  • INJURY REPORT

THE TIME IS NOW! 3RD PERIOD

12:40 A.M. -- MID PERIOD UPDATE: Down 2-1 in the third period, the Blue Jackets are headed to the power play after a great shift in the LA zone results in a tripping penalty. They've had some good energy so far this period, but need to capitalize.

    12:15 A.M. PROUT'S FIRST! --
Watch Dalton Prout's first career NHL goal tonight in Los Angeles:

12:11 A.M. -- SECOND PERIOD ANALYSIS: If it wasn't clear before now...this is easily the most intense game the Blue Jackets have played all season. Every check is finished and neither team has made many mistakes with the puck, making for a very playoff-like feel at STAPLES Center. The Jackets pulled even in middle frame on Dalton Prout's first NHL goal, a sizzling wrister from the center point that made its way through traffic and behind Quick. But the lead lasted less than a minute as Kyle Clifford - a former Barrie Colts teammate of Prout - jammed in a loose puck and put the Kings back in front by a 2-1 score. Another big third period looms for the Jackets in this playoff race.

11:50 P.M. -- MID PERIOD UPDATE: The Jackets' first power play chance just came to an end but no dice. Some really nice looks from both units but LA still has a 1-0 lead...

11:12 P.M. -- FIRST PERIOD ANALYSIS: You knew the Kings would come out with a big push, and they certainly did that in the opening period at STAPLES Center. The majority of action was seen in front of Sergei Bobrovsky, who was the busier of the two goaltenders but nothing too dramatic outside of Doughty's power play goal. The Blue Jackets could benefit from the intermission in terms of getting re-grouped and re-focused on their game, which eluded them a bit in the first period. Look for them to get more pucks in deep to start the second period.

10:55 P.M. -- MID PERIOD UPDATE: A fast-moving opening period at STAPLES Center, with only a couple of whistles so far and one goal to report from Drew Doughty. His sixth of the year gave the Kings a 1-0 lead on the power play.

6:30 A.M. -- RISE AND SHINE: What, you actually went to sleep?

While you were getting some rest (for whatever reason, your call) after the Blue Jackets' OT win last night in Anaheim, we were getting today's game day blog all nice and pretty for you. Aren't we awesome? Actually, check that -- both #CBJ and #DuckHunt were trending last night in Columbus, so that means YOU are the awesome ones.

The team took a short bus ride north after leaving Anaheim and arrived in Los Angeles around midnight local time. They'll get some rest, take the morning off from the ice and get re-charged for tonight's game against the Kings at STAPLES Center.

But that doesn't mean we'll take the morning off. Bob McElligott, Jeff Rimer and the rest of the CBJ crew are on-site at the team hotel and will bring you the latest updates and player interviews -- all of which you'll find here first.

Stay tuned, and remember...the refresh button is your friend.
