THE THIRD IS UNDERWAY. LET'S GO JACKETS!!!

10:09 P.M. -- MID PERIOD UPDATE: A goal from Andrew Desjardins (and a pretty one, at that) has the Sharks within a goal with just over 10 minutes to play in the third period. Columbus hasn't spent much time in the offensive zone to this point.

    9:53 P.M. HIGHLIGHTS --
Check out highlights of the Blue Jackets goals so far tonight:

9:36 P.M. -- SECOND PERIOD ANALYSIS: The Prospal-Letestu-Gaborik line has led the way offensively for the Blue Jackets, who have a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes at HP Pavilion in San Jose. Letestu has factored in all three goals for Columbus thus far (two goals, assist) and Prospal scored a sweet breakaway goal early in the period to make it a 2-0 game. Columbus has done some solid defensive work, as well, but Bobrovsky has made some very good saves to bail them out when called upon.

9:18 P.M. -- MID PERIOD UPDATE: Vinny Prospal's breakaway goal (off a slick feed from Letestu) made it 2-0 Jackets early in the second period, but Martin Havlat answered with a goal of his own to cut the lead in half. Both teams skating well and working hard below the icing line.

    ON TO THE SECOND...

8:44 P.M. -- FIRST PERIOD ANALYSIS: All in all, you have to like the period the Blue Jackets put together to start off this hockey game. San Jose out-shot them by a 13-7 margin but Mark Letestu's 11th of the season has Columbus ahead 1-0. Jack Johnson made a great read and jumped up into the play to make Letestu's goal happen, sending a perfect pass across the crease for Letestu to tap the puck behind Antti Niemi. Sergei Bobrovsky made a handful of strong saves and the Blue Jackets were sturdy in front of him, limiting time and space for the Sharks' big forwards in the offensive zone.

8:22 P.M. -- MID PERIOD UPDATE: A good start for the visitors. The Jackets have matched every bit of the intensity shown by their opponent tonight and have come up with some quality shifts in the Sharks' zone. Bobrovsky has been solid so far and all four lines are into the action for Todd Richards' group.
