Who was taken in 2010 at No. 16 overall?

The 2010 NHL Draft’s 16th overall selection brought a player that would become a top-six forward along with an Olympic participant during the 2014 Sochi Games.

The St. Louis Blues selected Russian-born winner Vladimir Tarasenko, who was a part of the KHL’s Sibir Novosibirsk club before being drafted. Tarasenko competed in the World Junior Championships in 2010 and 2011, taking home gold in 2011 while tallying 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in seven games.

During the 2011-12 season, he was traded to SKA St. Petersburg, where he played in 15 regular season games and recorded 16 points (10 goals, six assists) in 15 playoff games.

Tarasenko played 31 games with St. Petersburg in 2012-13 before being called up to the Blues, where he has played in each of the past two seasons. He tallied 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 2012-13, and just one season into his young NHL career, he was picked to play for Russia in the 2014 Olympics.

Following the Olympics, Tarasenko was a vital part of an offensive unit that found itself just one point shy of becoming Central Division champions. The Blues did make the playoffs, with the help of a 21-22-43 stat line from Tarasenko and his four goals in six playoff games, including a late game-tying goal during Game 2 of the Blues' first-round series against Chicago.
