The Blue Jackets traded away their 2011 first-round pick as part of the deal that brought Jeff Carter to Columbus. In case you were wondering, the pick ended up being the 8th overall selection which ended up being Canadian center Sean Couturier.

But during that very draft in 2011, the Blue Jackets  were on the clock in the 2nd round when the 37th overall selection came up, and Oshawa Generals center Boone Jenner got the call.

In his two seasons with Oshawa, Jenner tallied 115 points (34 goals and 71 assists) and was considered to be a physical offensive threat with great skating ability. At six-foot-one, and 205 pounds, Jenner was a force in the offensive zone.

In his two OHL season’s after having his name called, Jenner’s offensive game escalated quickly. 77 goals and 64 assists in only 99 games and Columbus’ decision to take Jenner was looking even better and better.

During the same time span, Jenner saw limited time with the Springfield Falcons (AHL), only playing in 10 games and putting up a stat line of 4-1--5. As the 2013-14 campaign proved, the jump from the OHL to the NHL didn’t seem troublesome for Jenner.

Without any prior NHL experience, Jenner exploded onto the scene with 16-13--29 in 72 games, including 3-2--5 in Columbus’ first-round matchup against Pittsburgh. Jenner also posted a rating of +6 during the regular season.

When the puck drops in the season-opener against Buffalo next season, Jenner will only be 21 years old with plenty of room to grow.
