Blue Jackets place Nikita Nikitin on IR, recall Nick Holden from Springfield

Nikitin suffered upper-body injury on Jan. 29 vs. Minnesota and is expected to miss approximately one week

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Nikita Nikitin on Injured Reserve retroactive to January 29 and have recalled defenseman Nick Holden from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons, club Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Nikitin, who has collected two assists and six penalty minutes in seven games this season, suffered an upper body injury at Minnesota on January 29 and is expected to be sidelined approximately one week.

Holden, 25, has tallied four goals and 18 assists for 22 points with 26 penalty minutes and a +13 plus/minus rating in 44 games with Springfield this season. He ranks second on the club in points by a defenseman and his plus/minus rating is fourth-best on the Eastern Conference-leading Falcons.

Holden, a 6-4, 207-pound native of St. Albert, Alberta, was scoreless and averaged 17:11 TOI in five NHL games with the Blue Jackets during the 2010-11 season. He has appeared in 266 career AHL games since making his professional debut with the Syracuse Crunch at the end of the 2007-08 season, collecting 21-80-101, 203 penalty minutes and a cumulative -6 plus/minus rating.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Tuesday when they host the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. ET.
