COLUMBUS, OHIO --- Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has been named the National Hockey League’s Third Star for the week ending March 17, the League and club announced today. St. Louis Blues forward Chris Stewart was named the NHL’s First Star, while Ottawa forward Kyle Turris is the Second Star selection.
In three games last week, Bobrovsky went 1-0-2 with a 0.62 goals-against average, .982 save percentage and one shutout to help Columbus extend its regulation unbeaten streak to a franchise record 10 games (6-0-4). On Mar. 12, he stopped 37-of-38 shots in a 2-1 SOL vs. Vancouver. On Mar. 14, he stopped 39-of-40 shots in a 2-1 SOL vs. Chicago. On Mar. 16, he made 39 saves and stopped both Phoenix shootout attempts to beat the Coyotes 1-0 and record his second career shutout (and second in five games).
This is the second consecutive week Bobrovsky has been among the NHL’s Three Star selections. He was the League’s First Star for the Week ending March 10 after posting a 4-0-0 record with a 0.77 GAA, .972 SV% and one SO in four games.
Bobrovsky, 24, has gone 7-1-3 with a 1.34 GAA, .955 SV% and two shutouts in his last 11 games to improve to 9-6-5 with a 2.00 GAA, .932 SV% and two SO in 20 games this season. He currently ranks second in the NHL in save percentage, fourth (tied) in shutouts and sixth in goals-against average. Acquired from Philadelphia for draft picks on June 22, 2012, Bobrovsky has gone 51-29-15 with a 2.58 GAA, .914 SV% and two shutouts in 103 career games since making his NHL debut with the Flyers in 2010-11.
