Blue Jackets re-sign Mark Letestu to a two-year contract extension

Letestu, 28, has tallied 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points in 85 games since joining the Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets signed center Mark Letestu to a two-year contract extension through the 2014-15 National Hockey League season, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

“Mark is a smart, versatile forward who brings consistency and a great work ethic every time he takes the ice and we are very pleased to have him remain with our hockey club,” said Kekalainen.

Letestu, 28, has tallied 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points in 85 games since joining the Blue Jackets in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 8, 2011. This season, he has collected 9-11-20 with eight penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating. He ranks second on the club in goals, assists and points and has won 52.0 percent of his face offs taken (179-of-344).

Originally signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent in March 2007, the 5-11, 195-pound native of Elk Point, Alberta has registered 35-38-73 In 170 career NHL games. Prior to signing with Pittsburgh, he spent the 2006-07 season at Western Michigan University and was named the CCHA Rookie of the Year. He tallied 24-22-46 and 14 penalty minutes in 37 games and led the nation with five shorthanded goals.

Columbus returns to action on Thursday when the club visits the Nashville Predators. Game time is 8 p.m. ET at Bridgestone Arena.
