Change has been the theme for Mark Letestu over the past couple of weeks. Not only did he switch to wearing No. 55 on his jersey after the Blue Jackets acquired Marian Gaborik – he and his wife, Brett Letestu, welcomed a baby boy yesterday.
After 13 hours at the hospital, Dylan Letestu came into the world weighing 8 lbs. 14 oz. Despite the long day, Letestu said the end result was incredible, and he’s looking forward to being a “busy set of parents this summer.” He also said that both mom and baby are healthy and doing well.
“He came out of there like a champ,” he said after the morning skate.
He also admired his wife for how well she handled being in labor for 13 hours, even though it was slightly shorter than what she went through with Dylan’s older brother, Caleb, who is only 21 months old.
“She did really well – to see somebody go through something like that – it makes you love them that much more,” he said.
The closeness in age of his two sons is something Letestu is familiar with. He and his brother are only 23 months apart and are really close. While Caleb seemed a little shy around Dylan when he first met him last night, Letestu hopes they become closer as Caleb settles into his role as older brother.
“I think you’re just curious to see how they’re going to interact with each other,” Letestu said.
“They do something to make you laugh every day, so it’s going to be nice to have both of them.”
