COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets begin preparations for their fifth National Hockey League season with the opening of training camp on Tuesday at Nationwide Arena. The club is opening training camp in the evening for the first time as all fans are invited to attend the first scrimmage at 6 p.m. Admission is free and doors open at 5:30 p.m. Players will report for physicals at Grant Medical Center and undergo strength testing at Nationwide Arena on Monday.

Blue Jackets President and General Manager Doug MacLean and Executive Vice-President and Assistant General Manager Jim Clark, along with Head Coach Gerard Gallant, Associate Coach Dean Blais, Assistant Coach Gord Murphy, Goaltending Coach Rick Wamsley and the club's scouting staff, will welcome 62 players on the first day of camp.

The first four days of camp will consist of all players being divided into three teams - Teams Red, White & Blue - with each day featuring one team on the ice for a practice session and the other two on the ice for a scrimmage. All three teams will also take part in off-ice workouts immediately following their on-ice sessions. Following Tuesday's afternoon and evening sessions, which will take place between 4-8:30 p.m., one team will practice and workout from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. with the other two squads scrimmaging and then working out from 11:15 a.m.-1:45 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday at the Ice Haus. On Friday, an 8:30-10 a.m. practice will be held at Nationwide Arena and a 9-10:30 a.m. scrimmage will take place in the Ice Haus. The teams will then be divided into two squads for the next several days.

Tuesday's Open Scrimmage & Blood Drive - The first day of camp will feature a practice session from 4 to 5:30 p.m., followed by a scrimmage at 6 p.m. which is free and open to the public. Doors at Nationwide Arena will open at 5:30 p.m. In addition, the Blue Jackets and OhioHealth are teaming up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive at Nationwide Arena (inside the Front St. doors) from 3-9 p.m. that day.
