TRAINING CAMP ROSTER

The Columbus Blue Jackets’ training camp resumed this morning with Team White, coming off last night’s 4-2 win over Team Red, coming to the arena at 9 a.m. to stretch out before practice began at 9:30. The squad then ran through their drills as the coaching staff, scouts and hockey operations staff analyzed each player. Team White’s practice ended at 11 a.m., clearing the ice for a scrimmage between Team Red and Team Blue, at 11:15 at the newly christened Dispatch Ice House.

SCRIMMAGE

NHL veteran Bill Lindsay, a non-roster invitee to training camp, had a hat trick, but it wasn't enough for Team Blue as young guns Jaroslav Balastik and Raffaele Sannitz each scored two goals in Team Red's 5-3 win on Wednesday morning.

Sannitz put Team Red on the board at 22:28, forcing home a rebound of a Jamie Pushor shot, which just escaped the grasp of goaltender Martin Prusek. Lindsay scored his first goal three minutes into the second period, on a great assist from Ben Simon. Simon fought for control of a loose puck along the boards, sealing of his defender and deftly slid the puck in front of the net, where Lindsay met it with a stick, knotting the score at one.

Sannitz then stole the puck in the blue zone, and faked a pass before firing a shot for a 2-1 lead. Balastik pounded home a lose rebound at 52:05, before training camp invitee Geoff Platt scored an unassisted goal at 63:12 for an insurmountable, 4-1 lead.

Team Blue came back as Lindsay scored two goals in a three-minute span, but Balastik scored his second goal of the afternoon to squelch the comeback efforts.

Coach Gerard Gallant comments on today’s practice & scrimmage

"Today the guys had better energy. They worked hard out there. We (the coaching staff) were pleased with the pace of the game today. The skill and energy really picked up today."

"I'm very excited to see all the young kids come in here and compete so hard. We have a lot of former draft picks in here playing well. We added a lot in free agency. We have so much more depth; you can already see it in the pace and skill of scrimmages."

"There are a lot of roster spots available on this year's team. When we break camp, we want our 23 best players here in Columbus. If some of our kids push our veterans out of spots, we'll keep the 23 best on our NHL roster."
