Zherdev Scores His First Of The Season; Columbus Falls, 3-1
Manny Malhotra tallies an assist for the fourth straight game
Nikolai Zherdev scored his first goal of the season with Manny Malhotra (four games) and Francois Beauchemin (two games) extending assist streaks, but LA scored two first period power-play goals and added an even strength tally in the second to defeat the Blue Jackets, 3-1 in front of 17,156 at Staples Center on Sunday night.
For Zherdev, the goal was his first of the season and improved his season totals to 1-2-3 on the year.Â Beauchemin earned his second career point on his second assist of the season, after recording a helper against Anaheim on Friday. Malhotra meanwhile, has garnered an assist in four consecutive games, handing out assists to Jason Chimera (at ChicagoÂ on Oct. 9), to Radoslav Suchy (at San Jose on Wednesday) and to Jan Hrdina (at Anaheim on Friday), prior to tonight's helper against the Kings.
Los Angeles got on the board at 8:15 of the first on Derek Armstrong's power-play goal. Michael Cammalleri also scored on the power play to put theÂ Kings up two, and Alexander Frolov scored for the Kings to complete the scoring.
The Kings out-shot Columbus, 31-20, while the Jackets went 0-for-7 on the power play and stopped 7-of-9 Los Angeles man advantages. Marc Denis stopped 28-of-31 shots in taking the loss.
