After opening with five of six games on the road, Columbus plays first two of five-straight at Nationwide Arena

THIS WEEK IN BLUE JACKETS HOCKEY: After playing five of their first six games on the road, the Columbus Blue Jackets (1-5-0, 2 pts./5th, Central Division) return home to open the longest homestand of the 2005-06 season. The Blue Jackets host the defending Pacific Division champion San Jose Sharks Friday and the defending Central Division champion Detroit Red Wings Saturday in the first two games of a five-game homestand. The set also includes an Oct. 24 game vs. Detroit and visits by the Nashville Predators on Oct. 26 and Minnesota Wild on Oct. 28.

WEEK IN REVIEW: Oct. 12 – at San Jose 4, Blue Jackets 1: Wayne Primeau scored a pair of goals, including one of two scored just 0:59 apart midway through the second period, to lead the Sharks. Radoslav Suchy's first goal as a Blue Jacket at 11:41 of the third period spoiled the shutout bid by Evgeni Nabokov (26 saves)â€¦ Oct. 14 – at Anaheim 4, Blue Jackets 3: Columbus battled back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits to tie the game at 3-3 on Jan Hrdina's second goal of the game at 15:53 of the third period, but Keith Carney netted the game-winner with 2:36 left in regulation. Pascal Leclaire made 32 saves for the Jackets, who were outshot 36 to 19â€¦ Oct. 16 – at Los Angeles 3, Blue Jackets 1: The Kings got first period power play goals by Derek Armstrong and Mike Cammalleri and a second period tally from Alexander Frolov to propel them to the win. Nikolai Zherdev scored his first of the season for Columbus, who went 0-of-7 on the power play compared to Los Angeles' 2-of-9 effort.
A WEEK OF FIRSTS FOR SEVERAL JACKETS: Several Blue Jackets registered firsts in the past weekâ€¦ C Jan Hrdina scored two goals at Anaheim on Oct. 14 to register his first two goals as a Blue Jacketsâ€¦ D Francois Beauchemin garnered his first career NHL point on an assist (Berard) at Anaheim on Oct. 14â€¦ D Radoslav Suchy scored his first goal as a Blue Jacket at San Jose on Oct. 12â€¦ Assisting on Suchy's goal was D Adam Foote, who picked up his first assist and first point in an NHL uniform other than that of the Colorado Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques.
STREAKING MALHOTRA WELCOMES NEW TEAMMATES WITH HELPERS: C Manny Malhotra has picked up assists in a career-high four-straight games and has a team-leading four assists on the season. He has also garnered the helper on three different players' first career goal as members of the Blue Jackets. He set up Jan Hrdina's first goal as a Jacket against Anaheim on Oct. 14, garnered an assist of Radoslav Suchy's goal at San Jose on Oct. 12 and tallied a helper on Jason Chimera's goal at Chicago on Oct. 9. Malhotra also assisted on Nikolai Zherdevâ€™s first goal of the season Sunday night at LA.
JACKETS LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK AT HOME: Columbus dropped a 3-1 decision to Calgary in its home-opener on October 7, which is the lone game the team has played at Nationwide Arena so far this season. That changes over the next two weeks as the club plays five home games in eight days beginning Friday vs. San Jose. Over the past two seasons, the club has gotten off strong on home ice, compiling a combined 12-5-2-1 record in its first 10 games at Nationwide Arena. The Jackets posted a 6-3-1 mark in 2003-04 and were 6-2-1-1 in 2002-03.
NEWS & NOTES: No team has played more than the Blue Jackets' five road games so far this seasonâ€¦ Columbus' 11 goals scored in six games is the lowest total in the NHLâ€¦ D Bryan Berard, who collected his second multi-point game of the season with 1-1-2 at Anaheim on Oct. 14, is tied for 16th among defensemen in scoring with 2-2-4 in six gamesâ€¦ D Francois Beauchemin has picked up assists in each of the last two gamesâ€¦ D Adam Foote collected assists in back-to-back games at San Jose on October 12 and Anaheim on Oct. 14.

BLUE JACKETS TO VISIT ARENA DISTRICT RESTAURANTS AT LUNCH WEDNESDAY: Several Blue Jackets players, team broadcasters and the Pepsi Power Patrol will be visiting numerous restaurants in the Arena District on Wednesday, meeting with diners and giving away free tickets to upcoming home games at Nationwide Arena.
