Jason Chimera Scores Twice; Foote Scores His First, Jackets Win 4-1<\/span>

Jason Chimera scored two goals and Adam Foote tallied his first as a Columbus Blue Jackets to lead Columbus to its first home win, defeating the San Jose Sharks, 4-1 in front of 15,388 at Nationwide Arena on Friday night.

David Vyborny gave the Jackets their first lead of the game, stealing the puck at center ice from Brad Stuart and skating the length of the ice before cutting to the center, faking a shot on goal and beating Evgeni Nabokov over his left shoulder for a 1-0 lead. The goal was Vyborny’s first of the season. San Jose tied the game in the second period, on a power-play goal by Scott Thornton.

Chimera scored his first of the night on the power-play seconds after Manny Malhotra won the faceoff, the puck was directed to Chimera whose slapper from 15 feet out beat Vesa Toskala, who relieved Nabokov after he was injured early in the second period. Columbus added one more goal just before the second period came to a close as Jan Hrdina won the faceoff with seconds remaining and Bryan Berard deflected the puck over to Adam Foote who scored his first as a Blue Jacket, as the horn sounded to end the period.

Chimera concluded the scoring in the third period, tallying his second goal of the night off of assists from Tyler Wright and Luke Richardson. Marc Denis earned his second win of the season stopping 25-of-26 shots.

Columbus was out shot on the evening, 26-25, and both teams finished 1-for-7 on the power play. Columbus will return to action tomorrow, playing host the Detroit Red Wings at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
