Jackets Drop 6-2 Decision to Red Wings
Berard and Letowski Score; Vyborny Becomes CBJ All-Time Assist Leader
Berard scored his third goal of the season, on the power play off assists from Todd Marchant and David Vyborny at 10:19 of the first. For Vyborny, it was his 96th assist as a Blue Jacket, moving ahead of Ray Whitney for first on the Blue Jackets All-Time list.
The Wings’ Brendan Shanahan tied the game scoring on a fluke bounce from behind the net banking the puck off the skate of Marc Denis and the post before settling in the back of the net to knot the game at one. Pavol Datsyuk then scored a pair of goals to put the Wings up 3-1.
Letowski brought the team within 3-2 with a slap shot of a bouncing puck on an assist by Marchant, his second assist of the game, but the Jackets would get no closer.
The Red Wings scored a pair of goals during a five-minute major power-play late in the second period to extend their lead to 5-2 heading into the second intermission. Henrik Zetterberg added a goal in the third to complete the scoring.
Detroit out-shot Columbus, 37-33 on the game, while converting on three of their nine power-play opportunities. Denis and Detroit netminder Manny Legace both finished with 31 saves on the evening.
