THIS WEEK IN BLUE JACKETS HOCKEY: The Columbus Blue Jackets (4-8-0, 8 pts./3rd, Central Division) will wrap up their second Western road trip of the young season this week with three games in four nights. The current road trip against Northwest Division opponents began with a 3-1 loss at Minnesota on October 29 and concludes this week with games against the Edmonton Oilers (Tuesday), defending Western Conference champion Calgary Flames (Thursday) and first place Vancouver Canucks (Friday). The Jackets enter the week having gone 3-3-0 in their last six games following a 1-5-0 start.

 

ROSTER REPORT: Oct. 30 - Assigned C Mark Hartigan to Syracuse Crunch (AHL)… Oct. 28 - Activated C Dan Fritsche (ankle sprain) off Injured Reserve… Oct. 27 - Assigned G Andrew Penner to Syracuse Crunch (AHL)… Oct. 25 - Recalled G Andrew Penner from Syracuse Crunch (AHL).

INJURY REPORT: C Gilbert Brule (sternal clavicular sprain, Oct. 7 vs. Calgary; IR – Oct. 8) will be sidelined six to eight weeks... D Rostislav Klesla (stress fracture of right leg, diagnosed on Sept. 26; IR – Oct. 3) is day-to-day… LW Rick Nash (ankle sprain, Sept. 14 practice; IR – Oct. 8 retroactive to Oct. 5) is day-to-day.

WEEK IN REVIEW: Oct. 24 – Detroit 6, at Blue Jackets 2: The Red Wings broke open a close game with four goals in the second period, including three on the power play, to complete a two-game sweep of the Jackets. Brendan Shanahan and Pavel Datsyuk each scored twice for Detroit, while Bryan Berard and Trevor Letowski scored for Columbus… Oct. 26 – at Blue Jackets 3, Nashville 2: Adam Foote's shorthanded goal :35 into overtime lifted Columbus and handed the Predators their first loss in nine games this season. Martin Prusek made 22 saves to earn the win for the Jackets, who outshot Nashville 34 to 24 and got goals from Letowski and Mark Hartigan… Oct. 28 – at Blue Jackets 2, Minnesota 1 (SO): Columbus set franchise records for shots in a game (53) and period (24 – 3rd), but needed Foote's goal at 19:18 of the third to force overtime. After a scoreless OT, Hartigan scored in the third round of the shootout and Letowski converted in eighth to end the NHL's longest shootout. Prusek made 27 saves for the win, while Minnesota's Dwayne Roloson made 52 saves in a losing effort… Oct. 29 – at Minnesota 3, Blue Jackets 1: Todd White scored two goals to help the Wild earn a split in the home-and-home set with the Blue Jackets. David Vyborny scored his second goal of the season that gave the Jackets a 1-0 lead midway through the first period. Minnesota held a 24 to 16 edge in shots, including 14 to 7 over the final two periods.

BERARD TOPS JACKETS, 11TH AMONG NHL DEFENSEMEN IN POINTS: D Bryan Berard is riding a four-game point scoring streak (1-3-4 since Oct. 24 vs. Detroit) and leads Columbus in scoring with 3-6-9 and three power play goals in 12 games. He also ranks 11th among NHL defensemen in scoring.

NEWS & NOTES: D Adam Foote has scored two goals in his last three games - the OT game-winning goal vs. Nashville on Oct. 26 and the game-tying goal with :42 left in regulation of an eventual 2-1 shootout win vs. Minnesota on Oct. 28… RW David Vyborny has 2-2-4 in his last six games and enters the week with 167 career points, one point shy of the Blue Jackets career mark on 168 held by Geoff Sanderson… C Todd Marchant has 0-3-3 in his last four games… D Luke Richardson has three assists in 12 games after tallying five in 64 games in 2003-04… Columbus' 2-1 shootout win over Minnesota on Oct. 28 was the first in NHL history to extend beyond the mandatory three rounds. RW Trevor Letowski's goal in the eighth round (16th shooter) gave the Jackets' the win… Columbus completed its longest homestand of the season from Oct. 21-28 with a 3-2-0 record.

SALUTE TO VETERANS, LIMA COMPANY SLATED FOR NOV. 11: Please join the Blue Jackets in honoring our armed forces when the Blue Jackets host the Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 11 at 7pm. This Veterans' Day Celebration will include a special acknowledgement of Columbus-based Lima Company of the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment (3/25). Fans can show their support for the troops in attendance and those currently serving by signing the large banner that will be displayed on the Bud Light Terrace area of the main concourse.
