Not even the return of Adam Foote could help the Columbus Blue Jackets get in the win column against the Detroit Red Wings.

Tomas Holmstrom scored a pair of power-play goals and Chris Osgood made 26 saves as the Red Wings remained perfect in five meetings with the Blue Jackets this season with a 4-0 victory.

After missing the previous nine games with a hip injury, Foote was activated from injured reserve on Wednesday. The solid defenseman was unable to keep Detroit in check, however, as he was on the ice for each of the Red Wings' first three goals.

Holmstrom provided all the offense Detroit needed seven minutes into the second period, snapping a scoreless tie with a power-play tally. Mark Mowers doubled the lead in the latter stages of the session before Holmstrom completed his fifth two-goal effort of the season less than five minutes into the third with his 16th of the campaign, giving the Red Wings a 3-0 cushion.

Osgood improved to 3-0-0 against Columbus this season, stopping 13 shots in the first period, five in the second and eight in the third for his first shutout of the season and 42nd career. The veteran goaltender posted his first win since December 31, also vs. the Blue Jackets.

The victory also was the 100th in the coaching career of Mike Babcock, who registered his first 69 triumphs while with Anaheim.

Pavel Datsyuk and Mikael Samuelsson each collected a pair of assists and defenseman Mathieu Schneider added a late goal for Detroit, which has outscored Columbus, 25-7, in the five meetings this season.

Rookie Pascal Leclaire made 37 saves for the Blue Jackets, who had their four-game home winning streak snapped.
