Blue Jackets Activate Foote From IR; Place Rupp On IR And Recall Hartigan
The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated defenseman Adam Foote off Injured Reserve, placed forward Mike Rupp on Injured Reserve and recalled forward Mark Hartigan from the American Hockey League's Syracuse Crunch, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. Foote and Hartigan are expected to be in the lineup tonight when Columbus hosts the Detroit Red Wings.

Foote, the Blue Jackets' captain, has missed the past nine games due to a hip injury. He has played in 29 games this season, registering 5-4-9 with 45 penalty minutes and scoring a team-leading two shorthanded goals. Signed by the Blue Jackets in the off-season after spending 13 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, he has collected 60-183-243 and 1,185 penalty minutes in 826 career NHL games. Last month, he was named to the Canadian Olympic Team for the third time.

Rupp suffered a broken foot in Monday's 4-3 win over the New York Rangers and will be sidelined four to six weeks. Acquired by Columbus from Phoenix on Oct. 8, he has tallied 3-2-5 and 54 penalty minutes in 35 games this season. Held without a point in his first 19 games, Rupp has collected 3-2-5 in his last 16 outings.

Hartigan has picked up 1-0-1 with six penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating in 11 games with Columbus this season. He currently leads Syracuse and is tied for eighth in the AHL in scoring with 17-26-43 and 30 penalty minutes in 29 games. He also leads the club with nine power play goals and is second in plus/minus at +8.

Signed as a free agent on July 16, 2003, Hartigan has 7-5-12 and 20 penalty minutes in 45 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Atlanta Thrashers. He has also registered 86-108-194 and 264 penalty minutes in 222 career AHL games. The former NCAA All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist with St. Cloud State was Syracuse's top goal scorer in 2004-05 with 31-28-59 and 105 penalty minutes in 69 games.

The Blue Jackets host the Central Division-leading Detroit Red Wings tonight at Nationwide Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m., with FSN Ohio's Ice Breaker pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship station WWCD-FM, CD101.
