Blue Jackets Activate Foote From IR; Place Rupp On IR And Recall Hartigan
Foote, the Blue Jackets' captain, has missed the past nine games due to a hip injury. He has played in 29 games this season, registering 5-4-9 with 45 penalty minutes and scoring a team-leading two shorthanded goals. Signed by the Blue Jackets in the off-season after spending 13 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, he has collected 60-183-243 and 1,185 penalty minutes in 826 career NHL games. Last month, he was named to the Canadian Olympic Team for the third time.
Rupp suffered a broken foot in Monday's 4-3 win over the New York Rangers and will be sidelined four to six weeks. Acquired by Columbus from Phoenix on Oct. 8, he has tallied 3-2-5 and 54 penalty minutes in 35 games this season. Held without a point in his first 19 games, Rupp has collected 3-2-5 in his last 16 outings.
Hartigan has picked up 1-0-1 with six penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating in 11 games with Columbus this season. He currently leads Syracuse and is tied for eighth in the AHL in scoring with 17-26-43 and 30 penalty minutes in 29 games. He also leads the club with nine power play goals and is second in plus/minus at +8.
Signed as a free agent on July 16, 2003, Hartigan has 7-5-12 and 20 penalty minutes in 45 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Atlanta Thrashers. He has also registered 86-108-194 and 264 penalty minutes in 222 career AHL games. The former NCAA All-American and Hobey Baker Award finalist with St. Cloud State was Syracuse's top goal scorer in 2004-05 with 31-28-59 and 105 penalty minutes in 69 games.
