WEEK IN REVIEW: Jan. 16 – at Blue Jackets 4, NY Rangers 3: Marc Denis made 33 saves and Rick Nash scored the game-winner at 13:22 of the third period to lead Columbus to its fourth win in five games vs. the Rangers at Nationwide Arena. New York took a 1-0 lead on the first of two goals by Marcel Hossa before the Jackets responded with goals by Jason Chimera, David Vyborny and Jody Shelley to take a 3-1 lead. Jason Ward's goal made it 3-2 after one period and Hossa's second tied the game at 6:56 of the third, setting the stage for Nash's heroics. Kevin Weekes made 28 saves in goal for the Rangers, who held a slim 36 to 32 edge in shots… Jan. 18 – Detroit 4, at Blue Jackets 0: Chris Osgood made 26 saves and Tomas Holmstrom scored a pair of power play goals to lead the Western Conference leading Red Wings to the win. After a scoreless first period, Detroit struck twice in the second and twice in the third against Pascal Leclaire, who made 37 saves for Columbus. Detroit went 2-of-7 on the power play, while holding the Jackets scoreless on seven attempts. Mark Mowers and Mathieu Schneider were the other Detroit goal scorers…Jan. 20 – at Blue Jackets 4, St. Louis 3 SO: Jan Hrdina's goal at 6:50 of the third period tied the game and Rick Nash scored in the shootout to lift Columbus to the win. After St. Louis's Dean McAmmond and Columbus' Nikolai Zherdev traded goals in the first period, the teams combined for three shorthanded goals in the second. Former Jacket Mike Sillinger and Dennis Wideman scored for the Blues and David Vyborny for Columbus as the visitors took a 3-2 lead into the third. The game belonged to Marc Denis from there as the Blue Jackets' netminder stopped all 26 shots he faced to finish with 41 and was 3-of-3 in his first career shootout… Jan. 21 – at Nashville 7, Blue Jackets 2: Nashville broke open a tight game in the third period, outscoring Columbus 4-1 in the final 20 minutes to earn the win. Leading 3-1 in the third, Nashville's Tomas Vokoun (27 saves) stopped Trevor Letowski on a penalty shot :28 into the period to preserve the lead. Letowski (shorthanded) and Bryan Berard (power play) scored the Columbus goals, while Scott Hartnell and Paul Kariya each notched two goals to lead the Predators. Pascal Leclaire made 41 saves in net for Columbus, which was outshot 48 to 29 in the game, including 21 to 10 in the third period.
SERGEI FEDOROV POSTER GIVEAWAY FOR ALL FANS ON TUESDAY; FREE CBJ HATS COURTESY OF HUNTINGTON ON SATURDAY: All fans attending Tuesday's game vs. Vancouver will receive a Sergei Fedorov poster as part of the UDF/Homemade Brand Ice Cream Poster Series Giveaway. JACKETS NIGHT OUT WITH THE BLITZ ON TUESDAY, REGULAR GUY NIGHT SET FOR FRIDAY: Jackets Night Out presented by 99.7 The Blitz is set for Tuesday as fans can purchase a $49 package that includes: two tickets to that night's game vs. Vancouver, two orders of nachos and two beers (must be 21-years-old or older with valid state I.D. to redeem coupons). FIRST ANNUAL CAREER FAIR SET FOR FRIDAY: The Blue Jackets are hosting their first annual Career Fair at Nationwide Arena on Friday, Jan. 27, from 1-4 p.m. Meet with representatives from the Blue Jackets, Columbus Destroyers, Syracuse Crunch, SMG, Sportservice, Columbus Crew, Cleveland Indians, Ohio State University Dept. of Recreational Sports, Columbus Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dayton Bombers, Nationwide Insurance, TeamWork Online, J.P. Morgan Chase, Greater Columbus Sports Commission, Ohio University Division of Sports Administration, Mandalay Baseball Properties, Devry University, Talis Sport & Event Marketing, Chillicothe Paints, Mahoning Valley Scrappers, U.S. Trotting Association/Hoof Beats Magazine, YMCA of Central Ohio, Franklin University and many more (attending organizations are subject to change). TREVOR LETOWSKI BOOK JACKETS READING APPEARANCE SET FOR WEDNESDAY: RW Trevor Letowski will be reading to young fans at the Whetstone branch of the Columbus Municipal Library, located at 3909 N. High St., on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. The appearance is part of the Blue Jackets Book Jackets Reading Program, which is designed to promote literacy and reward students in grades K-8 who reach specific reading goals.
JACKETS PLAYERS TO VISIT FOUR OHIOHEALTH HOSPITALS ON WEDNESDAY: Several Blue Jackets players will be visiting patients at four Columbus-area OhioHealth hospitals on Wednesday afternoon in support of the NHL's Hockey Fights Cancer initiative. Players will be visiting patients at Doctors Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Grant Medical Center and Grady Memorial Hospital from 3 to 4 p.m.
