Brule: WHL Playoff MVP and Player of the Week
It has been quite a week for Columbus Blue Jackets 2005 No. 1 pick Gilbert Brule.

On Monday, the 5-10, 180-pound native of Edmonton, Alberta was named the Greyhound Western Hockey League Player of the Week for scoring five goals and 10 points including two power-play goals and a game-winning goal in the first three games of the WHL Championship best-of-seven series against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

In the series opener on Friday, Brule scored two goals and added an assist. The following night, he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal and added three assists in a 7-5 win in Game 2.

On Wednesday, he was named the Most Valuable Player of the Western Hockey League Playoffs after tallying two assists in the Giants' 6-3 win to sweep the Moose Jaw Warriors to win the WHL Championship.

The two assists lifted Brule's playoff totals to 16 goals and 14 assists for 30 points to go along with 44 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +14 in 18 playoff games. He led all players in goals, points and plus/minus rating (tied) and ranked third in assists to lead the Vancouver Giants to their first WHL championship and a berth in the MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament scheduled for May 19-28 in Moncton, New Brunswick.

He appeared in 27 games with Vancouver during the regular season, tallying 23-15-38, 40 penalty minutes and a +5 plus/minus rating.

Brule also appeared in seven games with the Blue Jackets this season, tallying two goals and two assists for four points before being assigned to Vancouver on Jan. 17. Brule was also named WHL Player of the Week on Mar. 27 - Apr. 2.

He signed with the Blue Jackets on Oct. 3 after leading the team in scoring with 2-3-5 and six penalty minutes in six preseason games.
