Junior Blue Jackets' White team cruises to 8-1 win in All-Star Game
All-Star Game caps three-day Tryout Camp; team to be announced next week
White team forward Derek Roehl had a pair of goals, teammate Andrew Hamburg had a goal and an assist, while forward Mark Goggin chipped in with two assists to power the White team attack.
The White team jumped on the board early when Roehl scored his first goal at the 0:37 mark of the first. Danny Dries fed Roehl, who fired a wrister over the glove of Blue team goaltender Bobby Jarosz.
Leading 2-0 to start the second period, the White team netted two unassisted goals in the span of 0:26. Stephan Novotny fired a shot from the right corner that banked off Jarosz and in at the 1:47 mark. Forward Jason Simota then lit the lamp at 2:13 to make it 4-0.
Midway through the second, both teams changed goaltenders, which the White team jumped on quick. Brockett went five-hole for his first goal at 9:44, then followed with a hard wrist shot that beat goaltender Nick Hopper high on the glove side at 9:51. Roehl scored his second, with assists coming from Hamburg and Goggin, at 17:32 to cap a five goal second period.
The Blue team got on the board late in the second, when Clark MacLean fired a pass from the right corner to a streaking Sean McCauley who buried the puck from in front of the net at the 19:10 mark.
The final tally of the game came with 7:24 remaining. Tyler Murovich made a nice, quick move in front after a feed from Tyler Bowman to make it 8-1.
The Junior Blue Jackets will begin their first season of play on October 7, when they host the Waterloo Black Hawks at Nationwide Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are now available for $299 by calling 1-800-NHL-COLS.
