The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed forward Dan Fritsche to a two-year contract, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Thursday. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Fritsche, 21, tallied six goals and seven assists for 13 points with 22 penalty minutes in 59 games as a rookie with Columbus during the 2005-06 season. He added 5-4-9, 12 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 19 games with the Syracuse Crunch, the Blue Jackets' American Hockey League affiliate. In six AHL playoff games, he collected 2-2-4 with eight penalty minutes.

"Danny is a very competitive kid, who has worked very hard to become a solid, young hockey player with a lot of potential," said MacLean. "We believe he will continue to develop and become a very good player for our organization."

Columbus' second pick, 46th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft, Fritsche has registered 7-7-14 and 34 penalty minutes in 78 career NHL games. The Parma, Ohio native spent four years playing in the Ontario Hockey League from 2001-05, where he registered 71-84-155 and 143 penalty minutes in 135 games with Sarnia Sting and London Knights. He helped the Knights win the 2005 Memorial Cup championship and also represented Team USA at the 2004 and 2005 World Junior Championships, winning a gold medal in 2004.

The Blue Jackets open their 2006 training camp on Friday in Columbus with practices at Nationwide Arena and The Dispatch Ice Haus. The club plays its first preseason game on Sunday vs. the Nashville Predators. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Nationwide Arena.
