Blue Jackets Acquire Ryan Caldwell from New York Islanders
Caldwell, 25, has tallied four goals and 32 assists for 36 points with 103 penalty minutes in 134 career AHL games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers the past two seasons. In 2005-06, he was scoreless in two NHL games with the Islanders and notched 2-13-15 and 38 penalty minutes with Bridgeport. As a rookie, in 2004-05, he collected 2-19-21 and 65 penalty minutes in 73 games with the Tigers.
The Islanders’ seventh pick, 130th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft, Caldwell played four seasons at the University of Denver, registering 26-62-88 and 306 penalty minutes in 156 games from 2000-04. He earned WCHA All-Rookie honors in 2001 and notched a career-high 15-12-27 and 96 penalty minutes in 42 games as a senior in 2003-04. That year, he earned NCAA West First All-America honors, was a WCHA Second Team All-Star and a member of the 2004 NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team as the Pioneers captured the NCAA championship.
Boguniecki was signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent on Aug. 22. In eight games with Syracuse this season, he was scoreless with eight penalty minutes.
