Blue Jackets Prospect Russell and Mason Named to Team Canada WJC Selection Camp
Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced its 38-man selection camp roster for the 2007 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships Monday, which included defenseman Kris Russell, a third-round pick by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, and goaltender Steve Mason, a third-round pick by the Blue Jackets in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Russell has scored 17-20-37 in 31 games this season with Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League. The Caroline, Alberta, native is the Medicine Hat team captain and leads the league in goals and points, while ranking 10th overall in points. Last season he recorded 14-33-47 in 55 games and won the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy, awarded to the defenseman of the year. Russell was named to Team Canada for the 2006 World Junior Championships and tallied 1-3-4 and was +6 in seven games, helping Canada win the gold medal. He also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the Under-18 2004 Junior World Cup.

Mason has gone 19-4-3 with a 2.90 goals against average and .924 save percentage in 26 games with London of the Ontario Hockey League. The Oakville, Ontario, native ranks first in the league in save percentage, second in wins and fifth in GAA. Last season he posted a 5-3-0 record with a 2.66 GAA and .931 SV% in 12 games with the Knights.

The Team Canada National Junior Team Selection camp will take place at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, Alberta, Dec. 10-15. The 2007 World Junior Championship takes place in Sweden, beginning Dec. 26. Canada's first game of the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship will be on Tuesday, Dec. 26 at 1 p.m. ET versus Sweden. TSN and RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, will again carry all of Canada's games LIVE from the World Junior Championship.
