HARTIGAN'S STREAK HITS NINE: Left wing Mark Hartigan extended his point streak to nine games with an assist Monday afternoon against Binghamton. During the streak, Hartigan has tallied 12 points (6g, 6a), including registering three multiple point games. Through 30 games with the team this season, Hartigan has tallied 15 goals, 13 assists and 49 penalty minutes.

NOVAK SHOWS ALL-STAR FORM: Defenseman Filip Novak has hit his stride, registering 10 points (2g, 8a) in his last 10 games, after tallying 13 points (1g, 12a) in his first 25 games with Syracuse this season. Novak will represent the Crunch at the AHL All-Star Classic as a member of the PlanetUSA Team.

COLUMBUS REASSIGNS PICARD AND PLATT TO SYRACUSE: The Syracuse Crunch announced that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned left wing Alexandre Picard and center Geoff Platt to Syracuse.

Picard, 21, has appeared in nine games with the Blue Jackets this season and has collected 14 penalty minutes in 26 career NHL games with the club. In 28 games with Syracuse, he has 7 goals, 6 assists and 32 penalty minutes. Columbus's top pick in the 2004 Entry Draft, he has registered 22 goals, 21 assists and 84 penalty minutes in 73 career AHL games.

Platt, 21, has collected two penalty minutes in six games with the Blue Jackets this season and has totaled 5 assists and 18 penalty minutes in 21 career NHL games with Columbus. He currently leads Syracuse in goals and power play goals (eight), while ranking second in points having tallied 16 goals, 13 assists with 41 penalty minutes in 33 games. In 2005-06, he ranked third on the Crunch in scoring with 30 goals, 35 assists and 58 penalty minutes in 68 games as a rookie.

WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (PITTSBURGH PENGUINS): Syracuse travels to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, January 17 for the fifth of eighth regular season meetings. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton leads the series 3-1, after defeating Syracuse 3-2 in a shootout on December 29 at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Center Rob Schremp leads all active players in head-to-head scoring with four points (1g, 3a). Center Geoff Platt leads all active Crunch players with three points (1g, 2a) in head-to-head scoring. Tomas Popperle has appeared in three games for Syracuse, posting a 1-1-1 record, a 3.00 goals against average and .926 save percentage. Former Crunch goaltender Andrew Penner has appeared in net three times for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 2-1-0 record, a 2.60 goals against average and .902 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 34-24-8 against the Penguins.

 

ALBANY RIVER RATS (CAROLINA HURRICANES/COLORADA AVALANCHE): On Friday, January 19, the Albany River Rats visit the War Memorial at Oncenter for the third of eight regular season meetings. The series is tied 1-1-0, after Albany defeated Syracuse 5-4 in a shootout on December 23 in Syracuse. Several Crunch players are tied with three points each, while defenseman Johnny Boychuk leads all River Rats players with three points each (3g). Tomas Popperle appeared in one game with Syracuse, recording 21 saves in the win. Tyler Weiman has appeared in both games for Albany, posting a 1-1-0 record, a 3.45 goals against average and a .899 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 43-37-9 against the River Rats.

 

BINGHAMTON (OTTAWA SENATORS): Syracuse hosts Binghamton on Saturday, January 20 for the sixth of eight regular season meetings. Binghamton leads the series 3-1-1, despite losing to Syracuse 4-3 in a shootout on January 15 in Syracuse. Center Josh Hennessy (4g, 2a) leads all players in head-to-head scoring with six points. Defenseman Derrick Walser leads all Crunch players with five points (2g, 3a) in head-to-head scoring. Tomas Popperle has appeared in two games with Syracuse, posting a 2-0-0 record, a 4.02 goals against average and a .892 save percentage. Goaltenders Kelly Guard (2-2-0 record, 1.50 goals against average and .952 save percentage) and Jeff Glass (1-1-1 record, 3.25 goals against average and .907 save percentage) have split time in net for Binghamton. Lifetime, the Crunch are 14-20-3 against the Senators.

 

CRUNCHABLES: After going winless in their first four shootouts this season, the Crunch recorded their first shootout victory on Monday… Since the month of December goaltender Tomas Popperle has appeared in 16 of the teams' 20 games, posting a 7-7-2 record… Defenseman Derrick Walser set a team high with 11 shots on Monday, January 15 vs. Binghamton… Center Geoff Platt and defenseman Andy Canzanello's next game will be their 100th in a Crunch uniform.
