Blue Jackets Trade Conklin to Buffalo; Claim Boucher Off Waivers

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired a fifth round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goaltender Ty Conklin and have claimed goaltender Brian Boucher off waivers from the Chicago Blackhawks, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. Boucher is expected to join the club in Denver in time for tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Boucher, 30, has compiled a 76-95-33 record with a 2.78 goals-against average, .898 save percentage and 13 shutouts in 217 career NHL games with the Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Phoenix Coyotes and Philadelphia Flyers. He went 1-10-3 with a 3.26 goals-against average, .884 save percentage and one shutout in 15 games with Chicago this season. In 2003-04, he set a modern NHL record (since 1943-44) when he posted five consecutive shutouts (332:01) while playing with the Coyotes.

A native of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Boucher was Philadelphia's first pick, 22nd overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He played junior hockey with Tri-City of the Western Hockey League and was a member of Team USA squads that competed at the 1996 and 1997 World Junior Championship Tournaments. He made his NHL debut in 1999-00 with the Flyers and earned All-Rookie honors by posting a 20-10-3 record, 1.91 goals-against average, .918 save percentage and four shutouts.

Conklin appeared in 11 games with the Blue Jackets in 2006-07 and was 2-3-2 with a 3.30 goals-against average and .871 save percentage. He also played with the Syracuse Crunch, the club's American Hockey League affiliate, and was 3-12-3 with a 3.32 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 19 outings. From Buffalo, the Blue Jackets received a fifth round pick in this year's draft, which will be held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus on Friday and Saturday, June 22-23.

The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they meet the Avalanche at the Pepsi Center. Game time is set for 9 p.m. ET with live coverage on FSN Ohio beginning with the IceBreaker pre-game show at 8:30 p.m. and including the Blue Jackets Ice Cap post-game show immediately following the game. The game can also be heard on the Columbus Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM, Sports Radio 1460 The Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
