Columbus Blue Jackets, NHL Announce Special Events Planned for Fans in Celebration of the 2007 Entry Draft

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets and the National Hockey League announced today a variety of fun-filled entertainment and hockey-themed events surrounding the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, which will be held at Nationwide Arena on June 22-23. From June 20-23, residents and visitors of Columbus will have the chance to meet current and future NHL stars, view the legendary Stanley Cup®, purchase limited-edition collectibles at a two-day trading card and memorabilia show and see a live musical performance by Capitol Records recording artist Yellowcard.

On Wednesday, June 20, the NHL meets Major League Soccer as the Top Prospects in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft will attend the Columbus Crew game against the Kansas City Wizards. The NHL Prospects will be signing autographs pre-game at the Columbus Crew Stadium from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Blue Jackets goaltender and 2001 first round draft pick Pascal Leclaire will toss the coin prior to the game, while team mascot Stinger will take to the field with Columbus Crew mascot Crew Cat for a half-time kick-around. In addition, the Columbus Blue Jackets' Breakaway Tour will make a stop at the game to offer an experience for sports fans of all ages including team inflatables, a border patrol rink for street hockey games and more.

On Thursday, June 21, Blue Jackets players and former draft picks Rick Nash, Dan Fritsche and Pascal Leclaire will join several of this year's prospects in conducting the Top Prospects Clinic at The Dispatch Ice Haus. Pre-selected youth players from various Central Ohio youth hockey associations will learn from NHL stars of today and tomorrow at the clinic from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

On Friday, June 22, a Draft Bash will be held for fans on Battelle Plaza in front of Nationwide Arena in the heart of Columbus' downtown Arena District. The Nationwide Party on the Plaza will take place from 4-6:30 p.m. and kick off the start of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Multi-platinum recording artist Yellowcard will put on a free concert and fans will be able to enjoy food and drink from Donatos Pizza, Skyline Chili, Pepsi and Anheuser Busch. Fans will also be able to mingle with Stinger and other NHL mascot friends and test their skills with a host of hockey-themed interactive attractions. Draft tickets are not required for this outdoor plaza party.

Also commencing on Friday, June 22 is the 2007 NHL Draft Trading Card and Memorabilia Show, presented by Upper Deck, which will feature unique collectibles from nine hobby stores on the Nationwide Arena concourse. At this two-day event, hockey fans will have a chance to view the 115-year-old symbol of hockey supremacy -- the Stanley Cup® -- and the rest of the NHL’s prized trophies. Upper Deck will give fans the opportunity to make their own NHL Draft trading card and obtain a six-card wrapper redemption set. On Saturday, June 23 from 12:30-2 p.m., Upper Deck will make 250 limited-edition Alex Ovechkin All-Star action figures available for purchase. A special ticket that is required for the chance to purchase this rare action figure will be distributed at noon on Saturday near the Upper Deck location.

On Saturday, June 23, current Blue Jackets players Pascal Leclaire, Dan Fritsche and Jody Shelley and two of the team's top prospects 2006 first round draft pick Derick Brassard and 2005 draft pick Kris Russell will be among those to participate in autograph sessions on the Nationwide Arena concourse. Leclaire and Shelley will sign from 10-11 a.m., while Fritsche, Brassard and Russell will sign from 11 a.m. to noon.
