COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets selected Halifax Moosehead right wing Jakub Voracek (pronounced YAH-cub VOHR-uh-chehk) with the seventh overall pick of the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft, club General Manager Scott Howson announced tonight. The Entry Draft is being held at Nationwide Arena.

Voracek, who will turn 18 in August, scored 23 goals and added 63 assists for 86 points with 26 penalty minutes in 59 games with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League during the 2006-07 season. He led the club in points and assists with his 63 assists setting a single season club record. He added a team-leading 7-17-24 and six penalty minutes in 12 playoff games. He also played for the Czech Republic at the 2007 World Junior Championships, tallying 1-2-3 and four penalty minutes in six games.

"We were very excited that Jakub was available to us at number seven and are very pleased to welcome him to the Columbus Blue Jackets organization," said Howson. "He is a skilled player, has great vision and is strong and powerful on his skates. He has also shown himself to be a very effective player on the power play."

The Kladno, Czech Republic native spent the previous two seasons playing junior hockey in his hometown with HC Kladno. In 2005-06, he notched 21-38-59, 54 penalty minutes and was +17 in 46 games. He appeared in 16 games with the club in 2004-05 and collected 5-7-12 and six penalty minutes. In 62 games in the Czech Extraliga (under-20), he registered 26-45-71 and 60 penalty minutes.

The 2007 Entry Draft will continue on Saturday at Nationwide Arena with rounds two through seven. The Blue Jackets currently hold the following picks - second round (37th and 53rd), third round (68th), fifth round (128th, 129th, 149th), sixth round (158th) and a conditional pick in the seventh round from Anaheim (211th).

The club acquired the 53rd overall pick in this year's draft along with third (Tommy Sestito) and fourth (Ben Wright) round picks in the 2006 Entry Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for last year's second round pick (Jamie McGinn). Columbus acquired the 129th overall selection from the Boston Bruins in exchange for the rights to defenseman Adam McQuaid and acquired the 149th overall pick from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goaltender Ty Conklin.

Columbus acquired a conditional seventh round pick in either the 2007 or 2008 NHL Entry Draft along with center Zenon Konopka and left wing Curtis Glencross from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for right wing Joe Motzko, center Mark Hartigan and a fourth round pick, 98th overall, in this year's draft.

Tickets for the Draft are free and available at the Nationwide Arena Box Office or any of The Blueline locations at the Chillers or The Mall at Tuttle Crossing.
