Columbus Blue Jackets Goaltender Pascal Leclaire Named NHL\'s Third Star for the Week Ending January 27

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Pascal Leclaire has been named the NHL's Third Star for the week ending January 27, the club and league announced January 28. Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson was named First Star of the week, while Washington's Alexander Ovechkin was named Second Star.

Leclaire, 25, went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average, .968 save percentage and one shutout in two games last week, stopping 61 of 63 shots. On Jan. 22, he made 31 saves in a 4-2 win at Dallas. On Jan. 24, he made 30 saves to record his League-leading eighth shutout of the season in a 1-0 win at Chicago as the Blue Jackets wrapped up a five-game road trip with a 3-2-0 mark. He leads the NHL in save percentage (tied – .928), is second in goals-against average (2.00) and is tied for 10th in wins (19).

Alfredsson set a career high, an Ottawa franchise record and took the NHL scoring lead with 3-4-7 in the Senators' 8-4 win at Tampa Bay on Jan. 24. It was the most points in one game by an NHL player since Jan. 11, 2003, when Jaromir Jagr scored 3-4-7 for the Washington Capitals in a 12-2 win over Florida. Ovechkin tallied 3-3-6 in three games as the Capitals went 2-1-0 and moved within one point of the Southeast Division lead.

The Blue Jackets' first pick, eighth overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft, Leclaire is playing in his third season with Columbus and has gone 36-41-8 with a 2.70 goals-against average, .913 save percentage and nine shutouts in 94 career games. He has set the franchise record for shutouts in a season and longest shutout streak, going 156:29 without allowing a goal from Feb. 18-Oct. 13, 2007.
