Post Game Quotes - Jan. 29, 2008 vs. Phoenix

Phoenix Coyotes at Columbus Blue Jackets

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock

Commenting on the game…
"Phoenix was better than we were today – they were quicker on pucks. We had some burst, but we had too many players below the bar."

"We weren't as sharp as we needed to be, we were light with the puck and (played) loose. We didn't pay for it in the first period, but we did in the third. You're going to pay for it sometime in the game and we paid for it at the wrong time."

Commenting on missing Adam Foote for the first time this season …
"We're going to have to make adjustments along the way. We're going to have players in and out – we're going to have situations all the time. When your team competes at a high level, you are going to have success, no matter who is in the lineup. Right now, it's not about who is out, but who is in - the people that are in have to do the job."

Player Quotes

Columbus Blue Jackets Defenseman Ron Hainsey

Commenting on the third period…
"We've been pretty good with leads, especially the second half of the last 25 games or so. It was a disappointing third (period), obviously. We can't dwell on it here. We didn't play well. The first or second (periods) weren't great either."

Commenting on the absence of Adam Foote and Sergei Fedorov…
"Everybody's got injuries at one point or another. We've been fairly lucky. Footer's played every game up to this point. Injuries are going to happen, sickness is going to happen. The teams that are going to get in the playoffs are the ones that make the best of it and get through it."

Columbus Blue Jackets Goaltender Pascal Leclaire

Commenting on the tying goal that bounced off his upper body…
"I was up on the shot. My angles were right. It just hit me in the shoulder and then it popped up and I lost it. It was a bad rebound. Nine times out of ten, it will come out in front of me. I just kind of lost it. I gave up a couple bad rebounds tonight. It just seemed like I couldn't come up with the big save when it was 2-2."

Commenting on moving on from the loss…
"These (things) happen. We're going to forget pretty quick. We don't have the time right now to worry. We're going to come out tomorrow ready to work and come up with a good effort in Nashville."

Columbus Blue Jackets Left Wing Fredrik Modin

Commenting on tonight's game…
"We knew they were going to come hard, that's the way they play. We just didn't respond the way we wanted to. We were soft. We can't be soft against a team like that. It cost us."

Visiting Head Coach Quotes

Phoenix Coyotes Head Coach Wayne Gretzky

Commenting tonight's game…
"I thought we played a really solid good hockey game tonight, a good road game. Coming into a building where the team has won six in a row, playing really well at this point in the season."

Commenting on the Columbus goal 21 seconds into the game…
"To bounce back after they scored an early first goal, for a young group not to get down and keep going and working hard, I was really pleased with the effort of the entire team."

Commenting on the defensive play tonight…
"It was a nice bounce back game for (Keith) Ballard and (Derek) Morris. They played again tonight like they have all season long. They were solid defensively; we were pretty solid as a group tonight."

On the secret to tonight's success…
"It's just hard work. There's nothing fancy about it. There's no secret to this game. It's hard work, effort, and second effort. It's the guys who do the little things you don't often see in the scoreboard. I was very proud of our effort tonight as a team."

Commenting a big road win…
"Right now I think it was one of our best games we played this year. We matched up against a good team that's playing well. I thought they played well tonight."
