Post Game Quotes - Nov. 1, 2008

Chicago Blackhawks at Columbus Blue Jackets - November 1, 2008 – Nationwide Arena

Blue Jackets Head Coach Ken Hitchcock
Commenting on tonight's game…
"You don't want to waste efforts like tonight; this is now five games in a row that we've had great effort. We have three points to show for it and that's the frustrating part. We’ve not been rewarded for our efforts."

Commenting on the Blue Jackets’ close calls…

"My ears are ringing with all the goal posts we hit today. We had a lot of good players tonight; unfortunately we just didn't score on our chances. If we can continue to play like this, we’re going to win a lot of games."

Commenting on center R.J. Umberger

"I think Umberger has played well now, for three games in a row. If he's engaged like this, we'll talk to him about some added responsibility. He's played hard, been strong on the puck and he's been the player all of us saw and remembered (from Philadelphia). He's a solid player right now."

Commenting on the power play …

"We overwhelmed them for most of the game, but we lost the special teams game. They scored two and we scored one and that's the story of the game. Then they won the shootout special teams, too."

Visiting Head Coach Quotes

Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Joel Quenneville
Commenting on goaltender Cristobal Huet's performance…

"That was definitely a goalie win tonight. He was great and we battled back there. I fell like he (Huet) was the story of the night and I feel that Jonny (Jonathan Toews) has been great in shootouts and we found a way (to win)."

Commenting on the Blackhawks special teams…
"That was another story as well. The power play really was the big thing… when the two of them go hand in hand, they (power play unit) complimented the killers and they did a good job. We saw a quick five-on-three and a four-on-three and you know they did some nice things and took away some dangerous plays but you know the special teams might have been apart of success for tonight's win."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"The goalie was great, timely goals… I think playing these types of games, when the game is on the line, with a young team, there's a lot of things that we can learn and improve upon. That's one thing you have to like about these guys, and that's the way they compete. We're learning to get better in those situations."

Columbus Blue Jackets Quotes

Blue Jackets Center R.J. Umberger
Commenting on the special teams…

"We got out worked on the special teams tonight that's a big factor. You'll run in to goalies that play well like that, but penalty kill has to be better and on the power play we had our chances and we didn’t score so that's the difference in the game."

Commenting on the loss, but getting one point…
"Especially to a division opponent, you know they played last night so you've got to think that we would've had the jump out there and dictate the game. We didn't quit that shows a lot from our team, we've done that the last couple of games. I think we're close to putting this together, where we're going to go on a stretch here, you know, I've got a good feeling about this team."

Blue Jackets Center Michael Peca
Commenting recent play of the Blue Jackets…

"If we just keep playing this way five-on-five, I think we'll be fine. I'm sure over the next couple days we'll try to get the penalty kill straightened out and hopefully the power play guys will do the same thing."

Blue Jackets Left Wing Raffi Torres
Commenting on his return and his play tonight…
I still need to get in to game shape and stuff like that. I'm feeling like I'm like a step and half back on getting to those pucks first, getting to the net and just getting involved."

Commenting Chicago goaltender Cristobal Huet's play and the number of Blue Jackets shots…
"He came to play tonight, I don't know what the shot total was but he stepped up big. It's pretty much a guy coming in and stealing the game, especially on those power plays. He did a good job there, I think he helped them out even on that last shoot out, he made some big stops."
