Tough Loss in Edmonton

November 27

Tough loss… outshoot Edmonton 37-20… 3-1 with an empty net goal.

The power play was powerless tonight going 1-for-7. They had a glorious opportunity in the second period when Jared Stoll went to the box for a trip and an unsportsmanlike. The CBJ had four minutes of pp time and no results. In the third they had 1:10 of 5-on-3 and they came up dry. The lone goal and a pp goal at that was a blast with traffic from Ron Hainsey, his third, that extended his point streak to six games, with a goal and six assists.

Is it ever obvious that the Oil miss Ryan Smyth. They have five regulation wins in the last 43 regular season games. They have speed, they have finesse, but they miss the mucker and the traffic cop in front of the net.

You have to like the kids for Edmonton. Andrew Cogliano scored the GWG as he drove to the net. Does he not look like a mirror version of Mike Cammalleri? Both of these skilled players are products of the Red Berenson factory in Michigan.

Sam Gagner and Andrew took Toews and Kane out to dinner when the Hawks were in town. Sam said he didn't have Kris Russell's number plus he said "I forgot." All five have a history with the World Junior tournament and have a grown as friends… great friend eh?

Geoff Sanderson loves his home in Edmonton. His yard is big enough for a back yard rink with boards and nets. At -23 C, Geoff spent the afternoon flooding the rink for his kids before he played the game against the CBJ… and he still skates like a 16 year old, now we know why?

Where was the speed, the jump, the finish and the want tonight in crunch time? That is where a few of the seasoned vets have to step to the plate and go up and beyond in the high traffic areas.

Questions arise about the injury to Pascal Leclaire. How long, how severe, how did he do it and how come now? Hurry back Pazzy, Freddy did a nice job in filling in, but it would be nice to see another goose egg on the board… in short order!!

It is nice to see a team with the want to win. This team is learning to "hate to lose". For all of you that are fans of CBJ hockey, that is a great sign for the future. There are no fuzzy feelings for "almost, but" ... it is a belief that those days are gone. This is a squad that absorbs the classroom time of Professor Hitchcock very well.

How about George Matthews? What a trooper… his voice gone, he changes his attire to the mock turtle and Vicks Vapor Rub. He really should have been selected as one of the three stars in the Minny and Detroit wins. Hats off to old Tick Tock!!!
