February 22

When the 0:35 second mark hit in the first period, it was a round piece of rubber shrapnel that pierced the goal line. It was off the stick of newly acquired Cory Stillman, his first as a Senator. The CBJ could have retreated, but that was furthest from the truth as Nash scored his 23rd off a neutral zone turnover by ex-CBJ Luke Richardson.

With the Senators up 2-1 going into the third, Fedorov scored his ninth and his 470th (three behind Mogilny as the all time Russian goal scorer) of his career to tie it. Overtime did not produce a winner as the Sens had more chances to win it with their fourth PP of the night. The CBJ had one opportunity in the second, thus Ottawa playing the perfect game… yeah… right… do not get me started right Footer?... right Boller?

The shootout witnessed the "go to guys" Nash and Zherdev, demonstrate their artillery with a couple of snipes in tight on the stick side of the slow footed Ray Emery. It marked the first win for the CBJ in Ottawa in their fourth appearance, their first since November 13, 2003.

A day after the General (Hitch) and the Sergeants (assistants) left the practice facility to allow the army (team) to fend for themselves, which they did under the guidance of Captain Adam Foote, it was interesting to see the results. It was 45 minutes of a high tempo drill induced attack, led to unity and team building that helped produce a much needed victory.

It is now off to another battlefield in Mount Royal… Montreal. When one thinks of Mecca's and dynasties in sport, one does not have to look any further than the history of the Canadien de Montreal. It will be GM Bob Gainey night where they will hang the retired #23 jersey. It has been mentioned Bob had requested this night for the ceremony as he is close friends with Hitch. They share a Cup from the Dallas days.

It will end the five game war, with the CBJ looking to go home with a winning record!
