Is That Any Good?

This run of points in 6 consecutive games is very gratifying.  It really is rewarding for all of us that live each and every day on the cusps on how the team is performing.  Winning is one thing, but the way the team has been putting the final touches on getting a win or a point, is what stands tall.

Hitch, right now has the much needed healthy depth back in the fold in all positions...the end result is Alexander Picard being sent to Syracuse after clearing waivers late last week.  His veteran players bore the grunt work needed to finish off a battlefield effort in the third period.  With the likes of Manny Malhotra, Jason Chimera, Michael Peca etc, the role players knew the responsibility bestowed on them from years of experience.  They battled, they won one on ones low in their zone, they chipped in winning critical draws when needed and stood up to the challenge of blocking shots….ask Jason Chimera and Manny Malhotra the importance of proper equipment when playing this game of punishment.

The coaching staff today can roll four lines.  They can feel confident when looking at the defensive core, knowing the job can be done as well….lastly, the emergence of Steve Mason after a quick recovery from meniscus removal early this fall, has left the organization with a nice problem or quandary.  Does one carry 3 tenders?  Does one send Mason back to Syracuse? ….ooooo…touchy…. Does the organization make a play NOW in moving a commodity in net for a must future acquisition of a center man or right handed offensive defenseman?  Questions will be answered in part on Monday or Tuesday.  What is apparent and exciting for this team is the foundation and the core, from the top down, is under the jurisdiction of a plan.  It will be fun to watch it unfold.

Teams that have the ability to win on a consistent basis must possess the ability to control emotional high and lows that comes with big wins and disappointing losses.  Resilient behavior on a nightly basis will allow this team to climb the ladder of success.  The past 6 games have witnessed a growth in the development of this team.  The on ice leader of this team is struggling in the goal scoring department, but the game and the team is much bigger than one man’s individual success.  He has shown maturity in other aspects of his game like grunt work, penalty killing and the odd playmaking winger.  Scoring will come for #61….but winning as a team is more important than the individual accolades.

Fun to watch…exciting to be part of as a fan…bring it on…because right now it does not get any better than that…stay tuned!
