The Day Before the Next Game!!
Monday, February 2, 2009
This is the day before the next big home tilt against Division Rival St. Louis Blues. There was a little air that escaped from the big balloon that had been floating high over NWA….but not to worry. The team has really developed a sense of pride for the fans and the hockey community. There have been a lot of positives coming out of Nationwide with the team winning 10 out of the last 13 at home. The road has been pretty kind as well as they are
News broke this weekend that goaltender Steve “Stonewall” Mason has been playing with “mono.” If the normal person has mononucleosis, the tendency of symptoms appears as constant tiredness and tenderness in the spleen/liver area of the abdomen. How would an athlete know? How would a goaltender know if he has that disease? Remember when 300-400 pucks fly his way during practice and tend to bleed through all the supportive equipment, bruises are a norm….it is fortunate that he and the staff have it on a timetable, and it appears he is on the other side of it. That is good news!!
The disappointing loss to the Dallas Stars can be attributed to an off night of the ailing Mason, and second tenure adaptation to the NHL by the newly acquired Wade Dubielewicz. The team was not very good as they fell behind 3-0 because of some “soft play” and too many “odd man” rushes. The want to compete for pucks was absent for the most part. The CBJ ripped the puck off 4 posts on the night, but
It should be noted that Alexander Picard will be returned to
The lines were an interesting sort on the practice front as there were 5 full and close to healthy combinations. As it appeared today, Chimera may be back on the wing. The morning skate will be the “tell all” as they go through their line rushes.
The Goals / what needs to take place on Tuesday night falls into:
- the simplifying the game back to being responsible in the offensive end, being sure there is support on the defensive transition back to their own end.
- Like the
“Rembrandt”, 18 players plus the goaltender must be on the same page. Ottawa
- Create scoring chances by checking and be sure to “bury the opportunities” when given the chance.
- The last thing that is a must, no matter how the PP is formatted, get shots on goal….of the last 13 PP’s @ home, the team has garnered a total of 11 shots on goal. By shooting the puck one has a chance for a little “puck luck”. There are some additions to the lineup that can assist in getting to where the PP should be in regards to success ratio….
Stay tuned!!! And remember it is The Jackets Night Out pack!!!...2 beers…2 Donatos Pizzas….60 Bucks…You Gotta Luv It!!!!!
