Game 6...Will it be Over?

Period One

  • End to end....
  • 2 pp for Pittsburgh...no real scoring opportunities...Ozzie knows it is game 6
  • emotional and few whistles early
  • good road period by Detroit mid way through period
  • turnover by Stuart with 3 to go..but....good defense to defense
  • quick line changes by both teams with match ups on the menu
  • what a move by Datsyuk low to make a pass back door...only a matter of time before the Wings get going...no sense of panic by Wings
  • cross ice pass by Datsyuk with :25 to go shows so much skill and hockey sense
  • period over...entertaining...even though Wings out shot 11-3 ...not to worry
  • Zetterberg had a solid period with a couple of block shots and a transition opportunity!!

Period Two

  • Staal takes advantage of Filpula stepping up at the offensive as he filled the defensive lane for Lebda......creates 2on1 and he buries the puck on a 2nd effort...1-0 Pittsburgh
  • Osgood has been effective....controlling rebounds and has made 2 big saves to start the 2nd
  • Datsyuk turns the puck over..Ozzie stone walls the Pens...the refs have been lenient as a couple of interference calls have not been called on the Pens...Maguire and Olyck agree
  • 21-7 shots in favor or Pitt...never does this happen to Wings....still no panic...the Wings need offensive support in the corners....they also need to get pucks through...that is their forte and have not been able to make things happen YET
  • the Mule makes an impressive move inside the offensive blue line.... but to no avail
  • 9:49 to go and the Wings are still looking for their first PP
  • The drag snap by Datsyuk was presented, it may be effective later?
  • Zetterberg makes a great move, back hand to forehand and off the post past Fleury....still 1-0 Pens
  • Fedotenko is robbed by Ozzie in the last minute...the Wings still in it!!
  • Shots 24-12 Pens

Period Three

  • to start the period, Holmstrom with Zetterberg and Datsyuk have a good opportunity, but he fires the puck wide
  • low to high comes into play for the Wings...tips and traffic a must
  • no penalties still since 13:29 of the 1st....Lebda buried in front of his own net
  • Where is Hossa?..it would be nice for him to show up ...oh sorry it is not game 4
  • can you say STOVE TOP STUFFING?... give Tyler Kennedy credit as he walks out from below the goal line to stuff the puck past Osgood
  • the climb is uphill for the Wings down 2-0 with 13 minutes to go
  • the Energy line is the guess by the Wings coach Babcock...Hudler...Draper...Maltby...Ericsson lets the shot go and the rebound is deposited by Draper quickly....2-1 Pens...the Wings are forcing the issue
  • a penalty by Malkin with a crosscheck to Filpula...not smart but the 1st pp to the Wings with less than 11 to go
  • great movement by the Wings...Scuderi gets the rebound away from danger
  • Datsyuk has another takeaway...the Wings have 2 opportunities but Fleury strong on the PK...the best PK on your team is the tender
  • Another minor to the Pens...the Wings have been patient and now have another opportunity to bury one...low to high with deflections and traffic as the flavor of the period...the Pens do a great job, even though it is all Detroit in the zone....
  • Still the Pens by a goal
  • The Wings are all over the Pens but shot blocks by the Pens has been the difference...they take away the shooting lanes
  • Hossa has been a passenger tonight....no involvement and no puck protection to get to the net....get with it!
  • Fleury stones Cleary on a breakaway as he is pressured by Orpik....a 2 hand slash and no penalty...do not tell me that is not a minor....the playoffs are a different bird!!!!
  • Desperation with the goaltender out...chaos in the crease....Scuderi makes 2 key saves and  it is tied with 13.2 to go
  • WE HAVE GAME 7....and I am going to bed!!!!!!
  • Stay tuned!!
