A New Day
Today was a new day at Nationwide Arena. Getting past last night's disappointing loss to the Predators in Nashville for many reasons... The Blue Jackets took the ice for an optional skate with 12 players taking part.
Plenty of news on the injury front... First off, the good news, Rick Nash was back on the ice and I thought looked good. I expect to see him back in the lineup tomorrow night against the Carolina Hurricanes at Nationwide but a final decision likely won't be made till sometime tomorrow.
The news isn't so good elsewhere. Although Mannny Malhotra was back on the ice today he is not expected to return to game action until the West Coast trip next week. Mike Peca won't play until the New Year either. Peca will be tested for a concussion tomorrow but I did talk to him this morning and I thought he looked pretty good. Fingers crossed there!!
Gilbert Brule did not skate today and the club now has to deal not only with his illness, but then when he is back skating they must deal with his conditioning.
Both Joakim Lindstrom and Andrew Murray are still here from Syracuse and are available for the club at least for the two games before the Western Swing, if needed.
Back to some good news. Derick Brassard is expected to play for the Crunch tomorrow having fully recovered from his broken jaw and I'd think if things go as well for the former first round pick over the next several games as they did prior to the injury... we will see him with the big club real soon. As Hitch said on his 1460 the Fan radio show this week... once he is called up... you want him to play a role with the big club that sees him not having to return to the minors....
Hope to see you at tomorrow's game at Nationwide.
