Leclaire, Brule Shine in OT Win
After receiving a pass from Nikolai Zherdev, Francois Beauchemin put a slap shot on the net that Detroit’s James Howard was able to block, leaving the puck in front of the net for Brule, who scored for the win.
Columbus led 1-0 early in the game, as Joe Motzko scored his first goal of the preseason, off of assists from David Vyborny and Brule at17:21 of the first period.
The Blue Jackets increased the lead to two goals just 46 seconds into the second period, when Joakim Lindstrom’s wrist shot ricocheted off the post and hit Howard in the back, trickling into the net. Zherdev also assisted on the play.
Penalties hurt the Jackets in the second and third periods as the Red Wings tallied two power-play goals to force overtime. Robert Lang scored at 1:54 of the second, to bring the Wings within 2-1, scoring on the man advantage off assists from Andy Delmore and Niklas Kronvall.
The Red Wings tied the score with 43 seconds remaining, as Mark Mowers scored on the power play off assists from Brett Lebda and Jiri Hudler, forcing overtime.
The Jackets' Pascal Leclaire earned the victory, stopping 37-of-39 shots.
The Blue Jackets return to action tomorrow, as they travel to Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville Tenn. for an 8 p.m.(ET) contest with the Predators.
