Columbia Gas Blue Jackets Hot Prospect Report (Nov. 1)


Forward Philippe Dupuis and defenseman Kris Russell top this week's Columbia Gas Hot Prospects Report. Dupuis, a forward in the QMJHL, scored two goals and five points in three games, while Russell, a defenseman in the WHL, recorded one goal and six points in fives.

Jared Boll (Plymouth) -
Boll recorded 1-1-2 in three games last week. Through 14 games this season, the OHL rookie has registered 5-4-9 with 41 penalty minutes. He ranks T-25th in the OHL in Penalty Minutes, T-9th in rookie goals, and T-17th in rookie points. Columbus' fourth pick, 101st overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Boll spent the past two seasons with Lincoln of the USHL, where he registered 29-32-61 and 470 PIM in 116 games.

Trevor Hendrikx (Peterborough) - Hendrikx has recorded 1-7-8 with a +5 rating in nine games played this season. Peterborough enters the weekend with the best record in the OHL (11-2-1; 23 points) and the No. 1 ranking in the CHL's Top-10. Hendrikx entered the season with 25-68-93 in 232 career OHL games, coming off of a career-year with 15-33-48 in 68 games during the '04-05 campaign.

Dan LaCosta (Barrie) - LaCosta has opened the season with a 7-3-0 mark, 2.67 Goals Against Average, .921 Save Percentage, and one shutout. He leads the OHL in SV%, ranks second in GAA, and tied for fourth in wins. Barrie enters the weekend with the second most points in the OHL (21). A third round selection by the Blue Jackets in the 2004 Entry Draft, LaCosta was 25-11-4 with a 2.86 GAA and .902 SV%, and one shutout, ranking tied for second in the OHL in Wins.

Adam McQuaid (Sudbury) - McQuaid picked up his first assist of the season last week and has recorded 2-1-3 with 34 PIM and two power-play goals in 15 games played. Columbus' second round selection, 55th overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, he entered the season with 6-22-28 and 123 PIM in 113 career OHL games.

Kyle Wharton (Sault Ste. Marie) - Wharton posted 1-1-2 in three games last week. He has recorded 4-6-10 with 38 PIM in 16 games, just one goal shy of his career-best set last season. He ranks T-22nd in the OHL in points by a defenseman. Columbus' second round pick, 59th overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, Wharton has recorded 12-39-51 with 109 PIM in 139 career OHL games.


Philippe Dupuis (Moncton) -
Dupuis recorded 2-3-5 with a +3 rating in three games this week. For the season he has scored 5-8-13 with a +6 rating in eight games. Moncton is 13-3-0-1 on the season and ranked No. 10 in the CHL's Top-10. Dupuis ranked among the QMJHL scoring leaders last year with 34-50-84 in 62 games for Rouyn-Noranda. He was traded from Rouyn-Noranda to Moncton during the offseason.

Adam Pineault (Moncton) - Pineault has scored 2-3-5 with 12 PIM in four games this year. Moncton is 13-3-0-1 on the season and ranked No. 10 in the CHL's Top-10. A second round pick by the Blue Jackets in the 2004 Entry Draft, he ranked among the QMJHL rookie leaders in most major statistical categories last season with 26-20-46 and +12 rating in 61 games. He missed two weeks during the 2003-04 season while playing with Team USA at World Junior Championships and is a candidate to skate for Team USA at this years World Juniors.

Petr Pohl (Acadie-Bathurst) - Pohl has opened the 2005-06 season with 10-20-30 and a +6 rating in 18 games. He ranks among the QMJHL's Top-10 Points (T-8th) and Assists (T-6th). Acadie-Bathurst leads the QMJHL with 30 points and ranks No. 2 in the CHL's Top-10. A 2004 Entry Draft selection by the Blue Jackets, Pohl entered the year with 50-59-109 in 132 career QMJHL games.

Justin Vienneau (Shawinigan) - Vienneau has recorded 0-6-6 with 54 PIM in 16 games this season, just five assists shy of his career high set last year. He ranks tied for eighth in the league in PIM. A 2004 Entry Draft selection by the Blue Jackets, he entered the season with 4-18-22 and 275 PIM in 113 career QMJHL games.


Derek Reinhart (Regina) -
Reinhart has posted 0-0-0 with a +q rating and 28 PIM in 11 games this season. Regina enters the weekend 7-3-0-0 in its last 10 games, the hottest team in the WHL's Eastern Conference. The defenseman was Columbus' sixth pick, 177th overall, in this summer's Entry Draft. He entered the year with 3-11-14 and 312 PIM in 123 career WHL games.

Kris Russell (Medicine Hat) - Russell scored 1-5-6 in five games last week. For the season he has recorded 4-11-15 with two power-play goals and a +4 rating in 16 games. He ranks T-4th in the WHL in points by a defenseman and T-11th in assists by a defenseman. Medicine Hat enters the weekend tied for second place in the WHL's Eastern Conference with 22 points.
