Columbia Gas Blue Jackets Hot Prospect Report (Dec. 1)
Jared Boll (Plymouth) - Boll has recorded 8-6-14 with 78 penalty minutes and two power-play goals in 24 games this season. He ranks T-14th in the OHL in Penalty Minutes and T-19th in Rookie Points. Columbus' fourth pick, 101st overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, Boll spent the past two seasons with Lincoln of the USHL, where he registered 29-32-61 and 470 PIM in 116 games.
Trevor Hendrikx (Peterborough) - Hendrikx scored 12 points in 10 games during the month of November to boost his season totals to 3-17-20 with two power-play goals, and a +11 plus-minus rating in 20 contests. He ranks T-20th in the OHL in plus-minus rating and T-13th in points by a defenseman. Peterborough is 20-4-1-0 on the season, first in the OHL and ranked No. 1 in the CHL's Top-10. Hendrikx entered the season with 25-68-93 in 232 career OHL games, coming off of a career-year with 15-33-48 in 68 games during the '04-05 campaign.
Dan LaCosta (Barrie) - LaCosta stopped 25 of 27 saves in a 5-2 Team OHL win over Team Russia in Game 3 of the Canada/Russia Challenge. During the regular season he has posted a 14-5-1-1 record with a 2.40 goals against average, .924 save percentage, and three shutouts. LaCosta ranks first in the OHL in goals against average, save percentage, and shutouts, and second in wins. Barrie is tied for second in the OHL (18-8-1-1, 38 points) and ranked No. 10 in the CHL's Top 10. A third round selection by the Blue Jackets in the 2004 Entry Draft, LaCosta was 25-11-4 with a 2.86 GAA and .902 SV%, and one shutout, ranking tied for second in the OHL in wins.
Adam McQuaid (Sudbury) - McQuaid has scored 2-4-6 with 44 penalty minutes in 25 games this season. Columbus' second round selection, 55th overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft, he entered the season with 6-22-28 and 123 PIM in 113 career OHL games.
Kyle Wharton (Sault Ste. Marie) - Wharton dished out 0-1-1 in two games for Team OHL in the Canada/Russia Challenge, including an assist on the game-winning goal. He has 5-11-16 in 27 games for Sault Ste. Marie this season and is ranked T-23rd in the league in points by a defenseman. Columbus' second round pick, 59th overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, Wharton has recorded 12-39-51 with 109 PIM in 139 career OHL games.
Philippe Dupuis (Moncton) - Dupuis scored 3-19-22 in 11 games during the month of November to improve his season totals to 8-27-35 in 19 games with a +10 plus-minus rating. His 27 assists rank T-15th in the league, while Moncton's 21-7-0-1 record ranks first in the QMJHL in winning percentage and has the Wildcats ranked No. 9 in the CHL's Top-10. Dupuis ranked among the QMJHL scoring leaders last year with 34-50-84 in 62 games for Rouyn-Noranda. He was traded from Rouyn-Noranda to Moncton during the offseason.
Adam Pineault (Moncton) - Pineault has recorded 8-8-16 in just 14 games this season after rebounding from an early season injury. At 21-7-0-1, Moncton owns the best winning percentage in the QMJHL and is ranked No. 9 in the CHL's Top-10. A second round pick by the Blue Jackets in the 2004 Entry Draft, he ranked among the QMJHL rookie leaders in most major statistical categories last season with 26-20-46 and +12 rating in 61 games. He missed two weeks during the 2003-04 season while playing with Team USA at World Junior Championships and is a candidate to skate for Team USA at this years World Juniors.
Petr Pohl (Acadie-Bathurst) - Pohl has opened the season with 15-31-46, +7 plus-minus rating, six power-play goals, and three game-winning scores in 31 games. He ranks T-6th in the league in assists, T-10th in points, and T-21st goals. Acadie-Bathurst is 20-8-2-2 (44 points), good for second place in the QMJHL and the No. 5 ranking in the CHL's Top-10. A 2004 Entry Draft selection by the Blue Jackets, Pohl entered the year with 50-59-109 in 132 career QMJHL games.
Justin Vienneau (Shawinigan) - Vienneau has posted 1-8-9 in 26 games this season, just three assist shy of his career high set last year. He ranks 10th in the QMJHL with 83 penalty minutes. A 2004 Entry Draft selection by the Blue Jackets, he entered the season with 4-18-22 and 275 PIM in 113 career QMJHL games.
Derek Reinhart (Regina) - Reinhart has opened the season with 0-1-1 and a +3 plus-minus rating in 18 games. The defenseman was Columbus' sixth pick, 177th overall, in this summer's Entry Draft. He entered the year with 3-11-14 and 312 PIM in 123 career WHL games.
Kris Russell (Medicine Hat) - Russell scored the game's opening goal in a 3-1 Game 6 win for Team WHL in CHL's Canada/Russia Challenge. Medicine Hat's team captain, Russell has posted 6-15-21 with a +3 plus-minus rating and three power-play goals in 25 WHL games this season. Medicine Hat is 18-5-0-6 for 42 points, the best winning percentage in the WHL, good for the No. 4 ranking in the CHL's Top-10. Russell was Columbus' third pick, 67th overall, in this summer's Entry Draft. He ranked among the league's top scoring defensemen last season with 26-35-61 in 72 games, the most goals scored by a defenseman in any of the three Canadian Junior leagues.
