The Columbus Blue Jackets will face the Chicago Blackhawks on VERSUS Tuesday Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Windy City.
This will be the third time the Blue Jackets have appeared on VERSUS this season and they are currently 2-0 with wins over the Detroit Red Wings and the Boston Bruins. Both games came in the month of December at home, just eight days apart, and both ended with the Blue Jackets winning by the slimmest of margins.
On Dec. 18, Columbus squared off with Central Division rival Detroit at Nationwide Arena and jumped all over the visitors in the first period. After an unassisted goal by LW Jason Chimera, it was the big names for the Blue Jackets who took over the game. A goal by All-Star Rick Nash made it 2-0, with assists to RW David Vyborny and C Sergei Fedorov. Later in the first period, Fedorov got a goal of his own against his former team, with Vyborny and LW Fredrik Modin getting credit for assists on the play. The Red Wings didn’t go away, cutting the lead to 3-2 before Fedorov scored his second goal of the night, from Vyborny and Nash. Detroit’s Robert Lang scored a meaningless goal and Columbus took home a 4-3 victory.
On Dec. 26, the Blue Jackets and Boston played for the only time this season, at Nationwide Arena, the day after Christmas. The Bruins were up 1-0 and then the Jackets scored two goals in a row, one by Chimera and another by Fedorov. After heading to the first intermission tied at two, Boston jumped back ahead 4-2 in the second period. Columbus then scored three unanswered goals including the tying goal with 23 seconds left by Fedorov and the game-winning goal in overtime by Vyborny. In total, 11 different Blue Jackets scored on the night with only Vyborny (3) and Fedorov (2) scoring more than one point. The 5-4 victory was the team’s first overtime win of the season.
This is the final time the Blue Jackets play on the VERSUS network, however they do appear two time on NBC, once each in February, March and April.
