Blue Jackets Prospects at the Memorial Cup

Four of the Columbus Blue Jackets junior prospects, the Medicine Hat Tigers' Derek Dorsett and Kris Russell, and the Playmouth Whalers' Jared Boll and Tom Sestito played in the finals of the Western Hockey League and Ontario Hockey League, respectively. Both teams were able to win championships and thus earned a spot in the Memorial Cup Tournament, along with the Lewiston MAINEiacs and the Vancouver Giants.

The Memorial Cup is a round-robin tournament for the top four teams in the Canadian Hockey Leagues - WHL, OHL and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The WHL has two representatives, with Medicine Hat and Vancouver, who also battled for the WHL title.

Medicine Hat Tigers

*Derek Dorsett

^Blue Jackets 9th pick, 189th overall, 2006 Entry Draft.

Dorsett had one goal and two assists in four games at the tournament, including the Tigers lone assist in the title game. The goal was the only tally in a 1-0 win over Vancouver in the round robin play, while the first assist came against Lewiston in a 3-1 defeat.

*Kris Russell

^Blue Jackets 3rd pick, 67th overall, 2005 Entry Draft.

Russell had one point in four games at the Memorial Cup, assisting on the goal by Dorsett in the victory over the Giants.


Plymouth Whalers

*Tom Sestito

^Blue Jackets 3rd pick, 85th overall, 2006 Entry Draft.

Sestito had two goals and one assist in a 5-1 Tie-Breaker Game win over Lewiston. For the tournament, he had two goals and five assists in five games. He recorded a two assist game against Vancouver in round robin play.

*Jared Boll

^Blue Jackets 4th pick, 101st overall, 2005 Entry Draft.

Boll has two assists in five games, one coming in the Tie-Breaker Game and the other against Lewiston in Plymouth's first game of the tournament.
