Columbus Blue Jackets Prospects Report

All season long BlueJackets.com will be following the club's prospects by producing a weekly story/update on the future of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The individuals will be any player still playing at the Junior or Collegiate hockey level, in leagues such as the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, United States Hockey League and NCAA hockey.

To begin, we take a look at last season statistics for some of the young talent in the Blue Jackets organization.

Here are players we will be following all season long:

Jakub Voracek RW - 1st Pick, 7th Overall 2007 Entry Draft

18 years old, 6-1, 187 pounds - Kladno, Czech Republic

Voracek scored 23 goals with 63 assists for 86 points with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Halifax Mooseheads in the 2006/07 season. He added seven goals and 17 assists in 12 playoff games. Voracek led all QMJHL rookies in scoring, while also setting a franchise record for assists. He will start the 2007-08 campaign with the Mooseheads.

Stefan Legein RW - 2nd Pick, 37th Overall 2007 NHL Entry Draft

18 years old, 5-9, 170 pounds - Oakville, Ontario

Legein scored 43 goals to go along with 32 assists for 75 points with the Ontario Hockey League's Mississauga IceDogs. Legein averaged a point per game in the playoffs last season, scoring three times with two assists for five points. The speedy winger won the fastest skater competition at the 2007 Canadian Hockey League prospects game. He will start the 2007/08 season with the OHL's Niagara IceDogs, now based in St. Catherines, Ontario.

Jesse Dudas D - 8th Pick, 159th Overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft

19 years old, 6-1, 214 pounds  - St. Albert, Alberta

Dudas scored two goals and added 27 assists in 32 games with the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League. He will continue to play with the Cougars for the 2007-08 season.

Trent Vogelhuber LW - 7th Pick, 211th Overall in 2007 NHL Entry Draft 

19 years old, 6-2, 185 pounds - Cleveland, Ohio

Vogelhuber scored 10 goals to go along with 16 assists in 31 games for the North American Hockey league's St. Louis Bandits last season. This summer, he became the first central Ohioan selected in the NHL Entry Draft. He will start the 2007/08 season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League before beginning his collegiate career at Miami University of Ohio in 2008.

Will Weber D - 3rd Pick, 53rd Overall in 2007 NHL Entry Draft

18 years old, 6-4, 205 pounds - Traverse City, Michigan

Weber had 18 goals to go along with 20 assists in 24 games during his senior season at Michigan's Gaylord High School (USHS). The big defenseman was named the teenage Male Athlete of the Year in Traverse City by the local newspaper the Record-Eagle. Weber, the first overall selection in the United States Hockey League, will play the 2007-08 season with USHL's Chicago Steel.

Maxim Frechette D - 7th Pick, 142nd Overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft

19 years old, 6-5, 200 pounds - Sorel, Quebec, Canada

Frechette had two assists and 154 penalty minutes in 53 games for the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League last season.











Jake Hansen RW - 4th Pick, 68th Overall in 2007 NHL Entry Draft

18 years old, 6-1, 170 pounds - St. Paul, Minnesota

Hansen had an impressive 26 goals with 40 assists in 25 games in his senior season at White Bear Lake High School last season before adding four goals and four assists in 15 games with the United States Hockey League’s Sioux Falls Stampede. Expected to enter the University of Minnesota in 2008, Hansen will continue to skate with the Stampede in the 2007-08 season.

Matt Marquardt LW - 10th Pick, 194th Overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft

20 years old, 6-3, 229 pounds - North Bay, Ontario

Marquardt averaged better than a point per game in the 2006/07 season, scoring 41 goals to go with 29 assists for the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He added a goals and three assists in seven playoff games. Marquardt scored the winning goal for Moncton in their 3-1 semi-final win over the Vancouver Giants in the 2006 Memorial Cup. He will play with the Wildcats this season (six goals and three assists in his first seven games).

Nick Sucharski LW - 6th Pick, 136th Overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft

19 years old, 6-1, 165 pounds - Oakville, Ontario

Sucharski scored nine goals and added 15 assists during the 2006-07 season, his second with the Michigan State Spartans of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. He added a goal and an assist in four post-season games. Sucharski had his first two-goal game last season, a career high five-game point-scoring streak and also scored the game-winning goal over Maine to advance the Spartans to the National Championship game. He has returned to Michigan State for his junior season.

Allen York G - 6th Pick, 158th Overall in 2007 NHL Entry Draft

18 years old, 6-4, 185 pounds - Wetaskiwin, Alberta

York was a rock between the pipes for the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League last year, going 24-5-0 with two shutouts and 2.17 goals against average in 32 appearances. He also saw action in 22 playoff games, posting a 16-6 record with four shutouts, helping the Kodiaks to the Alberta Junior Hockey League title and the Doyle Cup. York will suit up with Camrose in the 2007-08 season.
