Prospects Report: December 6

Jakub Voracek RW

18 years old, 6-2, 190 pounds (Kladno, Czech Republic)

Columbus’s 1st pick, 7th overall, 2007 NHL Entry Draft

Voracek remains near the top of the QMJHL scoring race with a an impressive 16 goals and league-leading 34 assists through 25 games with the Halifax Mooseheads. The Kladno, Czech Republic native only trails Gatineau's Claude Giroux, who has one more point (51) than the Jackets' draft pick, though he has played five more games. Voracek will leave his teammates in Halifax to attend the Czech national junior camp but in his last game prior to traveling, the slick forward scored twice in the final six minutes of a 3-1 win over Drummondville.

Derick Brassard C

20 years old, 6-1, 172 pounds (Hull, Quebec)

Columbus's 71st pick, 6th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft

After a torrid start to his professional career in which he notched five goals and 15 assists in his first 20 games with the Crunch – en route to AHL Rookie of the Month honors – Brassard was sidelined in mid November after suffering a broken jaw in practice when he collided with a teammate.

Stefan Legein RW

18 years old, 5-9, 170 pounds (Oakville, Ontario)

Columbus's 2nd pick, 37th overall in 2007 NHL Entry Draft

Legein's success this year with the Niagara IceDogs has earned the relentless forward a spot at Canada’s National Junior Selection Camp in Calgary from December 10-14. In 22 games with the IceDogs, the Oakville native has tallied 17 goals and 10 assists, averaging better than a point per game despite the fact he has dealt with some minor injuries. Legein, who also has +7 rating and 58 penalty minutes on the season, signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Blue Jackets last month.

Steve Mason G

19 years old, 6-3, 186 pounds (Oakville, Ontario)

Columbus's 2nd pick, 69th overall in 2006 NHL Entry Draft

Mason continues to perform at an elite level in the competitive OHL, posting a solid 18-3-0-2 record in his first 23 appearances with the London Knights this season. He had a 2.85 goals against average, a .915 save percentage and one shutout through that stretch. Mason's work between the pipes earned him one of the four invites to goalies for Canada's National Junior Selection Camp.

Jesse Dudas D

19 years old, 6-1, 228 pounds (St. Albert, Alberta)

Columbus's 8th pick, 159th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft

Dudas had a great start to the WHL season with the Prince George Cougars but a charley horse put the young, offensive-minded blueliner on the shelf. The injury has been a chronic problem for Dudas but while his team was on a recent road trip, the Jackets organization sent him to Edmonton to get fitted for a special pad to protect his leg. Dudas did return to the lineup, and in a recent 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver Giants, he notched his second goal of the season. The young defenseman has 17 points (2-15-17) in 21 games.
