Columbus Blue Jackets Kick Of 2009-10 Season with Home Opening Festivities this Saturday

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets celebrate the 2009-10 home opener with a contest against Western Conference foe Minnesota Wild on Saturday, October 3, at Nationwide Arena. Among the planned festivities are a pair of commemorative giveaways; the presence of the Calder Memorial Trophy in recognition of NHL Rookie of the Year Steve Mason; and the traditional opening night player introductions accompanied by a light and video show. The pre-game ceremonies will begin promptly at 6:45 p.m., preceding the puck drop shortly after 7 p.m.

Upon entering Nationwide Arena, all fans will receive a 2009-10 Blue Jackets schedule magnet presented by Donatos. Following the game, all fans will receive a poster, courtesy of Cartridge World, featuring a photo of Steve Mason with the Calder Memorial Trophy. In further celebration of Mason’s recognition as the league's best rookie a year ago, the Calder Memorial Trophy will be displayed on the main concourse throughout the night courtesy of the Hockey Hall of Fame and fans will also be treated to an in-game video salute to Mason.

Also on Saturday, the Blue Jackets Foundation will debut the 50/50 Raffle as a vehicle to give local non-profit organizations a unique fundraising opportunity while sending one lucky fan home a cash prize. The raffle will be held during Friday, Saturday and Sunday home games throughout the season. Tickets will be sold for $1 each and up to 20,000 tickets may be sold per game. Near the end of each game, one winner will be announced and receive 50% of the total sales with the remainder after expenses going to that night's participating charity.

Live high-definition coverage of Saturday's opener on FOX Sports Ohio will begin with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. The game will also broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship station WWCD-FM, CD101, and online at BlueJackets.com.
