COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets President Mike Priest issued the following statement regarding the report released November 5 by the Columbus Chamber:

"On behalf of our organization, I would like to express our appreciation to the Columbus Chamber and Dr. Buser for their efforts and for recognizing the role the Blue Jackets and Nationwide have played in turning a once blighted area into Nationwide Arena and the Arena District, a source of economic growth and pride for Columbus and Franklin County.

"Over the past 10 years, the Blue Jackets have been able to build and maintain fan and corporate participation that sufficiently supports the operation of a team in this market. But as Dr. Buser's study acknowledges, there are significant disadvantages to our current economic model as it pertains to arena operating costs and finding a solution is critical to ensure that the remarkable economic growth and development that has taken place in our community continues.

"Public partnership in arenas and stadiums has been a critical element to ensuring healthy, competitive sports franchises in markets across the country, including Cleveland and Cincinnati in Ohio, and our priority continues to be to secure long-term financial viability in this great city. We welcome the presentation of ideas and very much look forward to working with the public and private sector in the coming days, weeks and months to reach a solution that is in the best interest of everyone in our community."
