Blackhawks Are Buff Enough

May 24

Whoever makes it to the Stanley Cup Final from the Eastern Conference is going to have to find a way to neutralize Dustin Byfuglien. That is something that has been easier said than done this playoff season. The Sharks couldn't do it, as Byfuglien scored three game-winning goals in the four game series, including the one that sent the 'Hawks to the final round. He has only ten points in the playoffs, but eight of those are goals. Those goals have impacted the outcome of games. When you couple that with Jonathan Toews' 26 points and Patick Kane's 20, it shows you how tough Chicago is going to be to beat.

On a side note, Matt Calvert had the opportunity to turn pro back in September. He would've played in the American Hockey League and could've been part of the Blue Jackets by late March.

Instead, Calvert returned to his junior team in Brandon, Manitoba because they were hosting the Memorial Cup Tournament. That was important to Matt because he's from Brandon and wanted to bring the coveted trophy to his hometown. You have to admire his loyalty and character for making that decision.

Unfortunately, Calvert's Wheat Kings were beaten by Windsor in yesterday's championship game. The final score was 9-1, with Calvert scoring Brandon's only goal. He's probably extremely disappointed today, but things will soon turn around for him. He has a lot of potential and he will get his chance to tap into it as a professional, very soon.
