Columbus Blue Jackets Announce 2010-11 Regular Season Schedule

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Columbus Blue Jackets and National Hockey League announced the 2010-11 regular season schedule June 22 and the Blue Jackets will play their first game at Nationwide Arena on Friday, October 15 against the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. Last February, the club announced it would be opening its 10th Anniverary season in Stockholm, Sweden on Friday and Saturday, October 8-9, against the San Jose Sharks as part of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere™ and NHL Face-Off™.

The 2010-11 schedule continues to emphasize division rivalries as the Blue Jackets will face off six times against Central Division opponents Chicago, Detroit, Nashville and St. Louis. The club again will play four games against non-divisional Western Conference opponents and 18 contests against Eastern Conference clubs. In addition to home-and-home sets against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers, Columbus will also host the Eastern Conference's New Jersey Devils, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators at Nationwide Arena this season.

The Blue Jackets' schedule features 41 home and 41 away games, including the pair of games in Stockholm, and spans 184 day, culminating on Saturday, April 9 at Nationwide Arena against the Buffalo Sabres. Columbus will play 42 of its 82 games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, including 20 of its 41 home games (Friday – 10; Saturday – 7; Sunday – 3). All home games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. except for the following Sunday games that will begin at 5 p.m. – March 20 vs. New Jersey, March 27 vs. Vancouver and April 3 vs. St. Louis.

Several games highlight the 40-game schedule at Nationwide Arena. In addition to three games against the Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks on opening night, Tuesday, February 1 and Friday, April 1, the Blue Jackets will also host 2009 Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh on Saturday December 4. The 2008 Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings pay the first of their three visits on Friday, November 26, which is the day after Thanksgiving and the day before the Ohio State-Michigan football game at Ohio Stadium, as well as on Friday, January 14 and Thursday, March 17. In addition to the Blackhawks and Red Wings, three other of the NHL's "Original Six" clubs will visit Columbus this season – Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, November 2, New York Rangers on Saturday, December 11 and Boston Bruins on Tuesday, March 15. The Jackets will host the defending Eastern Conference champion Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, October 25 and the NHL's all-time winningest goaltender, Martin Brodeur, and the New Jersey Devils on Sunday, March 20. For the eighth time in 10 seasons, Columbus will play a home game on New Year's Eve as the Ottawa Senators visit on Friday, December 31.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are commemorating their 10th season in the National Hockey league in 2010-11 and a complete list of promotions will be announced later this summer. Season tickets for the 2010-11 season, as well as six-, 10- and 20-game packages for 2010-11 are on sale now. For information, call (800) NHL-COLS or visit BlueJackets.com.
