"We are very pleased and excited to add a player of Ethan's caliber and person of his character to the Blue Jackets organization," said Howson. "He will bring valuable leadership, competitiveness and experience to our lineup.”

Moreau, 34, spent the past 10-plus seasons with the Oilers and tallied 9-9-18 and 62 penalty minutes in 75 games last season. In 2008-09, he collected 14-12-26 and 133 penalty minutes in 77 games and received the National Hockey League’s King Clancy Award, which is given "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Moreau registered a career-high 20-12-32 and 96 penalty minutes in 81 games with Edmonton in 2003-04. He picked up 11-16-27 and 87 penalty minutes in 2005-06, helping the club reach the Stanley Cup Final before missing the majority of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons due to injury. He was named the 12th captain in Oilers franchise history prior to the 2007-08 campaign.

Chicago's first pick, 14th overall, in the 1994 Entry Draft, Moreau made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks during the 1995-96 season and went on to play the majority of the next three seasons with the club. He notched 33-32-65 and 284 penalty minutes in 210 games with Chicago before being acquired by the Oilers in a seven-player trade on Mar. 20, 1999.

A native of Huntsville, Ontario, he played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League from 1991-95 with Niagara Falls and Sudbury. He was named to the 1991-92 OHL All-Rookie Team and registered a career-high 44-54-98 and 100 penalty minutes in 59 games in 1993-94 with Niagara Falls.
